Back to the vet today for a trim of her front teeth.
She was as good as gold, didn't need an anaesthetic and let the vet trim and file her front teeth without any trouble. She had a look at her molars and said they were fine.

She's currently curled up fast asleep in bed with Sphene, can't say I blame her. It was-2C out there today, freezing fog and heavy frost here, snow in Sunderland, so she had her snugglesafe and a towel over the case to keep the heat in and the wind out.

Had to hand feed today and this little purple plastic spoon was a godsend! Less intimidating than a syringe, but small enough for her to eat from.

Is she losing interest or struggling with eating? That spoon must be REALLY tiny! Those syringes are so small, and it is nearly the same size. Is it hard to hold?

I think she's a bit sore still after her dental, but she's interested in food. I think I'm making it a bit wet for her to eat comfortably from a saucer, so the spoon can be held at the same height she would eat from her paws if that makes sense. I'm realising that with degus, success is all about height and angles when it comes to meds and CC.
Its not hard to hold, but does make your arm ache after a while, but as I'm reaching down, leaning on the rim of the BDDT its at the right height for me too. It also means that she's not confronted with a huge pile and can eat steadily.
She was back up to 219g after breakfast this morning, dropping to 204g before meds, but back up to 221g after eating CC, so she's certainly taking enough on board for her needs. She let's me know when she's had enough CC, plus she's eating forage too.

It sounds like you have made a very successful feeding plan that works well for both of you! Well done, Savvy! Is her tummy round after she eats?

Yeah, you can almost see her filling out as she eats, but she's looking a lot less skinny in general. Not the clearest picture but it was taken a couple of hours after she'd eaten. Little Amber is the one at the bottom underneath Sphene, Ruby is on the ramp.

It's 4am and I'm just back from the emergency vets with Ruby who has an infection. She's been put on bayril and it's now the wait and see time.
I'll update more when I know more.

Think its possibly ears, balance is bad, but no discharge or sneezing, but constantly scratching her ears or putting her back paws in them. Shes sleeping at the moment but not interested in food, just got some metacam into her with the help of bouncy, so hopefully after a good rest she'll start feeling a bit better.

This morning between 3 and 4am, my darling Ruby the Foody crossed the rainbow bridge. She died snuggled in a towel, and cosy in a snugglesafe warmed carrier case where she'd been most of the evening at all night while I watched over her, but when I did my final check at 4am she had gone. This photograph was taken earlier as she was snoozing after being snuggled by her mum. Rest in peace my darling girl, you fought so bravely but it wasn't to be.

Thanks moletteuk, it became obvious as the evening turned into night that she wasn't going to make it. She had rallied earlier when I'd managed to get meds and CC into her and she was more settled, but she went into a decline not long afterwards. I was in constant communication with the vet who had treated her as an emergency in the small hours of Sunday morning, right through the night by telephone and had spent most of Sunday daytime on either voice or video calls to bouncy, who was a godsend when I was trying to deal with everything on my own, including 3 other degus who needed my attention. With the vet being almost 10 miles away and the temperature outside at zero, it was decided not to disturb or distress her and to let her pass peacefully at home as it was unlikely that she would survive the journey. She had been given metacam so she was as comfortable as we could make her and her passing was as peaceful as possible. I was checking on her every few minutes and was sat in the lounge with the lights low so she could rest, but unfortunately I fell asleep for a few minutes so missed a couple of checks, but I don't think she had been gone long when I checked at 4am. She died curled up asleep and looked incredibly peaceful. She will be cremated and her ashes interned in the closest to a wheel shaped casket as I could find as kipping on a gently rocking wheel was her favourite resting place.
