Good Morning! My name is Francesca and I'm new here ☺ I have a question regarding the room temperature: currently I'm living in north Italy, in the mountains, and the temperature is around 18 °C in the house. I'll move soon in Venice where the temperature can arrive at 34 °C in summer. I guess in the house will arrive at 28-30 max because is north exposed. Is this dangerous for degus? Any advise? Are there degus owner in hot countries?

Degus are used to temperature between 17 and 22°c. Much colder, and they'll fluff right up and give you evils. If it gets too hot, they're in trouble. Degus don't have a sweat mechanism, so a breeze or fan won't help. Their natural defence is to return to the burrow underground, where it's a lot cooler. In an apartment, it's different. If it's a few degrees warmer, you can give them cold surfaces to lie on, such as granite or ceramic tiles. Much more than 25°c I would think about leaving the a/c on!
Do/will you have a room that faces north that the goos can live in? If you can shutter the room/draw the curtains, keep the windows and door closed, it should help keep it cooler in there, but there's no guarantee it'll stay low enough.
Mine live in a North facing room. I keep tiles in the fridge that I put in the cages on hot days, and have turned the a/c on them before now! My place can easily hit 32°, so it's important to plan ahead.

Thank you for the advice that a breeze or fan don't help I didn't know they don't have a sweat mechanism!

I've used a mist spray on mine before to act as sweat. Even if it did work, I still got evils for the rest of the day. They hated the water spray!

My vet said that if their tips of the ears are turning pinkish, they are turning hot and this indicates that they are too warm.

Cookiedegus, if you have a flat rock, or access to some large (medium) ceramic tiles . . . you can put them in the refrigerator to make them cool, and then can put them in the cage for the degus to cool down on.
