If there has been no improvement at all, then in my opinion the minimum you need to do is to contact your vet and get some proper cream to keep it lubricated and try to get it to go back in, something like the Canaural I mentioned before. You should be able to arrange it over the phone. If you do nothing the penis will get damaged and likely infected. Also, the blockage is very concerning to me.
If it were me I would want a competent vet to feel the abdomen to check for lumps and I would do the xray at this point. You could haggle with your vet over the xray as they could/ should have done the squeeze, stitch and xray all in one really. If you don't know the cause, you can't offer treatment and he won't get better.
If he is eating well again, the teeth don't particularly concern me at this point. Dental treatment is not usually carried out on roots, most vets just put the degu on long term metacam to help pain and inflammation.

The vet did squeeze his belly and have a feel he said it maybe stones but it’s hard to say without an X-ray he then said after he don’t think it was stones as he would have felt them when he was under anaesthetic and he didn’t so X-ray will tell but what If he needs surgery doing and he will have to go under anaesthetic again for the X-ray

The best thing to do is to speak to your vet and ask them the best way forward. You need professional help. It's their job to guide you and give you treatment or diagnosis options. I know it can be a bit awkward to speak to them, especially if you aren't 100% confident in them, but you don't really have any choice.
Things to discuss are trying an antibacterial steroid cream on the penis for a couple of days (but this ignores the blockage), doing an xray, any other ideas the vet has, getting a referral (if your vet does not sound certain about the way forward).
You can only decide if any further surgery would be worth it once you have more information. There may be non invasive treatment that certainly is worth it.

I agree, with Moletteuk. You really do need to talk to your vet, and it is totally within your right to require a referral, or that they contact John Chitty. To do nothing is a high risk of infection and possible tissue death. It has to be painful to be dragging his penis across the ground all the time.

I took him vets today and took your advice I took him to a different vets and asked for a second opinion they said he seems fine they tried some ky jelly to put it in again which is what I already was doing and he said it’s really unusual for it to be out there is usually a course for it but because it looked fine and he was fine in himself as long as he is weeing and going toilet ok and not straining or keep trying to bite it or injured and is eating ok then he should be fine he said he wasn’t in pain with it and the penis looks fine it’s just out it maybe just his age

He also said at this point that there is no point in keep putting him through anaesthetic to try and put it back in if it just keeps coming back out again

No I even said do I still need to put ky jelly on it he said it seems fine only if it dries out I don’t get it with the vets I don’t know which one is worse they don’t seem bothered by small animals I’ve still got to take the other one in about her scratching lumps her eye is closed now this is so stressful knowing what vets to go to try and treat them I went to the park vets today thought they might be better as seem like a private vets you could not even go in there because of covid they come outside to you and take your pet in

That is pretty common practice right now. AND IT IS very distressing! I hate not being able to see what they are doing and to ask questions in the moment.

I'm so glad you went to another vets but VERY disappointed how it went, you don't seem to be having any luck at all. How do you feel about it? How is your boy actually doing (what's his name?), has there been any change? I wonder if there is a slight chance that Park would have another more experienced degu vet, you would need to ring and ask. Other than that, I think you would have to ask the first vet for a referral to Chine. I'm sorry there is extra pressure on you to find a vet solution as your girl needs a vet too.

Thanks for your reply I’m feeling a bit all over the place when it comes to vets none of them want to know because of lack of experience when it comes to degus I need to make an appointment for the girl degu when I do I will see if they could referrer me to chine vets because they all tell me to go there but they didn’t want to know unless it was a referral so hopefully they will referrer me his name is scar face the girls name is shadow scar face seems to be ok he sleeps a lot he is eating his cc food from me still he loves that so much he has loads of it when I feed him it so I think that is helping him loads get stronger his penis is still out but seems ok no damage or swelling to it it’s just out I feel as though I have just gone around in big circles when it comes to the vets and nothing has changed really with them apart from my bank balance it’s really hard as I’m trying and feel like it’s just going on and I’m not getting anywhere with all of it I’m also worried about the girl shadow if it’s a tumour and will have to have it cut off surgery on it

Take a deep breath! You are doing the very best you can for your boy. By getting him wolfing down so much cc, you're building his strength and giving him the best chance. As long as his penis remains clean and free of inflammation, he's still pooing and peeing, and looking perky, there isn't much more to do. When I get home later, I'll email John and see if he can suggest anything else

So update on my goos not much change really I took the girl shadow back to the vets on Thursday they told me they didn’t know what to do with her so said they will refer me to specialist chine vets and that I should get an appointment still heard nothing from them so I rang chine up and told them my vet referred me they said that they haven’t they hadn’t heard anything from them also said I don’t know when or weather you will get an appointment any time soon as we are extremely busy they always seem to not want to treat them they really seem not bothered so not sure of my options now also shadow now keeps sticking her tongue out do you think it could be teeth related to the lumps oh and the boy scar face is still the same his thing is still out but keeps weeing ok and it seems fine he is making a weird noise with his teeth like grinding noise I really am not sure with these vets anymore

Did you try contacting rescue places to see if they had any other vet recommendations? Or perhaps you could consider travelling further, would the next nearest place on our recommended list be an option, it might be worth the journey since both degus need seeing? Or chasing up if the original vet sent the referral.
Shadow sticking her tongue out would certainly seem like some kind of mouth issue, not something I have heard of before, which makes me wonder if it relates to the lump.

Ok thanks all for your help I don’t know why her tongue is sticking out now and again I would like the vet to at least to examine her and see what is going on I think they need to put her under anaesthetic gas to have a look in her mouth too I would love to find a vet what could look after them and actually care I really am shocked by all of this mess around from them they all say see a specialist then the specialist doesn’t want to know so why can’t they just treat her I feel so bad for them like it’s my fault I hate not being able to help them not getting anywhere but I will keep trying I need too here is a recent picture of her she is even pulling her fur out now on her leg think that might be stress
