Great cage! Depending on how active he is you could limit them to a couple of shelves so it's less substrate to remove, or remove the substrate from the shelves he is mostly using. Has the vet injured his eye/ aggravated it significantly while looking at it?

He did pee earlier when I put toilet roll in his carrier and he poohed ok too he is now drinking and trying to eat his pellets I will give him cc again now it’s hard to know in the cage I won’t know if it’s his wee or his brothers should I put some sand on his fur because I don’t think he is using the sand bath

The boys use the bottom 4 parts of the cage and the girls are in the top 4 parts of the cage I like the cage but it’s a nightmare to clean all of it 😁

I would keep him away from the sand altogether.
If you can watch them closely before they go to bed, most goos will have a wee before they go to their nest.

I put him in his carrier again and he had a wee in there again I put him in there to check he wees and poohs straight the way in there and that’s where I feed him his cc on the syringe it’s the only way he eats that he has been so much more active today running around drinking and eating loads he has had loads to drink and eat today I’m worried I have over fed him cc because I’m trying to build his weight up I’ve gave him lots today but I think he needs it am I supposed too limit it or just give him what he wants he seems so hungry bless him

I'm glad to hear he's more active and that his poos and wees are looking good.
It is impossible to overfeed CC, give him as much as he wants, he'll soon let you know when he's full.

How many degus do you have bouncy and how old are they male or female and how have yours been doing I currently have six, all boys. I lost Scaredy last summer to a tumour, but he was like your dude, always looking grumpy and dishevelled, but such a love. He would get excited when he knew we were going to see John. That group of three were at least one year old when I adopted them six years ago, all have molar root issues, and Spidey has an inoperable tumour, but is still going strong. The other group is made up of two brothers who are now five, and sarahc's only male pups from her two litters. They'll be three in August. All fine and happy, apart from Sausage's prolapse If your boy wants to eat, just keep squirting out that cc! It's basically his normal food in mushed form. You can try mixing in some ground almonds with the cc for faster weight gain!

Scaredy's tumours were internal. He just got slower, then he just sat there rocking back and forth, so I had to say goodbye. He still didn't want to go, and fought the drugs. He had been having six monthly dentals for years, eeked out from two months by adding vitamin D. He, Spidey, and Silly all take/took daily metacam for the roots, but Silly hasn't needed a dental yet.
Spidey developed a visible tumour just before Christmas. Vet operated NYE, said she got it all, and sent the lump to the lab. It confirmed a very aggressive and malignant sort. By the time it appeared again on the surface, it had already spread internally and declared inoperable. That was three months ago. He's still going strong, but I know the time is coming, so I just keep checking.
Sausage had a prolapse. It didn't help that he carried on running in the wheel to create an open wound and inflammation. Vet kept him in for a couple of days so they could reduce the inflammation, pop everything back, and deal with the wound. He was still very inflamed when I brought him home, having antibiotics and a healing cream. He was back to normal after a couple of weeks, but still has a small scar.

Aww bless it sounds like you and your degus are going through the wars too it must be a common thing with them update on mine his penis is not going to go back in it feels like a lump in it maybe full of mucus again he did wee though I don’t know how often he is weeing though and he still has a lump on his right side of his mouth from his teeth the good news is the left side has gone done I fed him cc 3 times yesterday out of the syringe he has 1 scoop mixed with water each time I also ordered him a heat pad there has been no improvement on the girl she keeps scratching the lump on her face so she is going to have to get sorted for that I’m worried about both of them I don’t know what to do

Have you tried squeezing the mucus out of the penis?
Did you find another vet?

I wouldn’t really want to squeeze it and hurt the little thing I don’t know what I’m doing it’s amazing how many vets turn you away because it’s. Degu I contacted another vet today they said they don’t deal with them and to contact chine vet which I have they just turned me down and said they was to busy it’s shocking really that know one wants to know because it’s a degu and they don’t know about them so annoying

I really don’t want to keep putting him through anaesthetic and if he needs root treatment on his teeth on the left side it could cost up to £600 the vet said and a specialist will have to do it plus his prolapse

Have you asked your vet to refer you to Chine?
If it's from another vet, they may take the referral.

I haven’t asked them yet because they will probably think I’m being cheeky because they are trying to treat him

They should know when they are out if their depth. I think you should ask them for a referral. Chine are specialists and they should at least be consulting them.

If they won't refer, tell them to share the case with John, who can advise. Mention he's an expert, and they may relent!

Don’t know what to do about taking him back vets if I do he will have a X-ray to see the course of the prolapse and if it’s surgery I’m not putting him through that because also he may need his teeth doing too so I’m worried about the outcome because at the moment he seems ok apart from it hanging and dragging around
