Foraging Degu
Dedenne will be my profile pic until I can get some actual degus. I guess it looks a bit like a goo?

A very stressed pre newbie here..... There seems to be a fine line between "spoiled and fantastic life" and "cluttered life with too much of a good thing" I'm just going to spit out all the cage stuff for future goos...
A big pile of Timothy and Orchard hay to demolish 30 apple twigs (not all of them in the cage tho....) A 14 inch Pandamonium wheel A wooden bendy bridge - 24 inches long and 6 inches wide An all metal hut that measures 10" in length, 9" in width, and 7" in height A Niteangel treat roller that is the size of a tennis ball 5 loofah rolls that are 8" in length and 2" in diameter An assortment of wooden ledges that range from 2.5" by 6" to a 10" square Tons of TP rolls and tissue boxes
All of that smooshed into a Critter nation with 2 male goos! 0_o *pant pant*

I'd save some of the toilet rolls and tissue boxes for when they've demolished a couple. They will spread them all over the place, too many and the cage will literally be full of toilet paper. They will only need 1 loofah at a time too, unless they start to fight, in which case give them one each.
Also, don't be too disappointed if they don't take to the hut straight away, my handsome 9 year old degu, Dixie, just won't sleep in a hut, he prefers his bed to be in the open.

Good to know, but all TP rolls and tissue boxes I save for future goos are empty. Also, I might addin a hammock.

I'd put a full tp roll in, they'll have great fun.

Ditto! I give mine a whole loo roll when I change them. They have to work to get their bedding! The delinquents have a good system, the oldies not at all. One thing consistent - they leave the loo roll middle untouched! They'll love the tissue boxes!

If you extend the half shelves you will have a lot more space to put stuff.
I found it better to provide small amounts of hay and top it up regularly and clear it out quite regularly.
Once you get them and see how they interact with the space and the things in the space, you should be better able to tell what is working and what isn't working. I would look out for a few plain cardboard boxes for them, you can't go wrong, they either use them for a nest or hideout or enjoy chewing them up.

I'm not an expert like the others here, I'm new to degus too. But I have those applewood sticks to. I put one in every now and then. My degu has a lot of wood toys, and she really doesn't get through them, like I heard others do. So maybe play by ear in what they do, start with less and then you can give them bits as something new. But as I said, I'm new, so word of caution.

Goos do love to chew! Over time, mine have learned not to eat their shelves because they might not be replaced. Other things, such as bendy bridges are open season. One thing my lot do love are the wooden pieces with a bolt on the end that I can fix to the bars. Spidey switches between sitting on his favourite wooden shelf and leaning on it, or making himself comfy and chewing away. Yes, I do have empty bolts!
Mine do have quite a few branches and bamboo roots to clamber over and attempt to climb. I've been told the bamboo wood itself can be quite bitter to them, so they tend not to chew it. However, my lot will devour fresh bamboo stalks from my mum's garden.
