Thanks deguconvert, even if just in agreement, the judgement of another degu expert is invaluable to make the best decision. Thank you!

A tooth issue causing eye trouble would be overgrown roots, which usually comes with teeth overgrowing in the mouth too, so requires regular dental treatment and usually does reduce lifespan to some degree. bouncy would you most likely see eye gunk in both eyes in this case? Since she has received vet treatment, then the vet should have examined her mouth to rule out dental disease. If one eye has an obvious problem and the other non at all, it seems more likely to be an injury to me, which is unlikely to cause issues long term. I wouldn't let the history of fighting in this degu put you off, it doesn't mean much when they came from such difficult circumstances.

The two of mine with gunk have it in one eye only, being the side with the longest roots. On a bad day, Spidey's other eye sometimes gets a little watery, but it's rare.

Mine had overgrown roots on one side, there wasn't any gunk, just a closed up eye.
Vet said it wasn't serious or painful enough - that normally they don't treat it. This said, that degu had regular dentals anyway.
