We're not saying any of this to put you off having degus, we're just trying to give you a realistic picture.

They're very unlikely to bite, especially if you have them since little. I've had Degus 9 years and only one attempted to bite me in an angry way (I had leather gloves on thank god).
They will sorta nip at your skin - this isn't biting, they are grooming you!

Poo flicking! Unbelievable distances. Need I say more? Lol Don't forget that the distance poo is flung is related to how high your poo guards are

Speaking of poo, investing in some floor mats/plastic table cloth/lino/a good hoover/broom is a tip that doesn't often get mentioned.
I have plastic floor mats in front of my cages for easy sweeping

Mine are in the kitchen on a tiled floor, which also serves as their playground. They own the floor, but the work surfaces are MINE!

I don't know if these are Super Rare™️ tips exactly but I learned a drop or two of Evening Primrose Oil on the food once a month helps with dry skin. They totally will learn words (as well as a dog) if you keep using consistent words for various things/activities.
