I've had a look at the ad and it says the number is for evenings only. It's possible the phone is switched off until later.
I'd try again this evening to see if you can get through, alternatively report the ad so Preloved can contact her to tell her the number isn't working.

I'd try again this evening to see if you can get through, alternatively report the ad so Preloved can contact her to tell her the number isn't working. I thought that maybe, but if a number is switched off it usually saying this number isn't available right now, so the fact the message played says number isn't recognised makes me think the number is incorrect. I am definitely going to try again this evening though!
Yes you read my mind, I've just sent a message to pre-loved via their contact us page asking if they could let the poster know I am 100% interested and given them my mobile number to pass on.
I even rang the local animal sanctuary in Chard just in case the poster had not been successful in rehoming her and given her up to the sanctuary. (Sadly, no luck).
It may not even amount to anything as the post is over 50 days old, so she may not even be available anymore.
I have my fingers crossed anyway

A number of friends have sent me text messages over the years saying my number wasn't recognised when they've tried to call, it was a network problem and the phone was sat beside me quite happily. It wasn't telling me it has an issue, it just wasn't connecting to the network for voice calls.
Try sending a text in case this is the problem.

My partner has the exact same issues when he's in our home! It just goes straight to voicemail when that happens and I have to text him to ring me (he gets the text saying to call me.... but not my call).
I have just had a reply from pre-loved and they appear to have amended the advert so it is now possible to send a message to the poster when you click on respond. So I'm going to send a message now!

Not yet
I don't want to get my hopes up because it's been 50 days since the advert was posted and they're moving home, so she's probably not available any more.
Plus if she is available, I am a bit anxious about travelling. Since I first posted, most of the areas in the UK have moved up into higher Tier restrictions. I looked and Somerset is in Tier 4, and Cornwall is Tier 3 now (we were in Tier 2 when I posted and only Tier 1 a couple of weeks ago!). For Tier 3 the government website says "Avoid travelling outside your area, including for overnight stays, other than where necessary". A newspaper article from the Independent says "Those in tier 3 are advised not to travel outside their area for non-essential purposes, but after much confusion the government has confirmed that this is only guidance – and that there is no legal impediment." So I can legally travel, but morally is it right to?! Probably not
Ho hum

I think a lot depends on how you travel. If you are in a private vehicle you are safer than public transport as you are only in contact with people from your household.
You can always try to arrange a quick outside pick up if you keep in contact with the person you are collecting from re arrival times etc so they can get everything ready.
Masks and gloves are a necessity of course, and take plenty of wipes with you, and you should be OK.

North Somerset, ironically, is still tier three. Provided you don't get out of your vehicle between locations (fill up before you go), you should be fine. Ironically, I find it safer paying for fuel through the external payment window instead of at the pump - no contact necessary if using a phone to pay!

Sadly I've not had a response to my enquiry into the advert.

The right degu(s) are out there and they'll be along as soon as they can. Don't lose heart.

Were there any potentials in the other locations you have looked into?

Unfortunately, we're all entering another lockdown over here from midnight on so, unless the goos are at risk, I think this may have to go on hold! I guess you could argue Skittish's mental well-being is at risk?

Hi everyone thank you so much for all your well wishes. It's obviously disappointing and frustrating, especially with the nationwide lockdown now in place but we will keep looking, and if we find suitable degu/s we will see if people would be ok to wait for us to collect them when travel is permitted again. Were there any potentials in the other locations you have looked into? Sadly not yet. I didn't hear back from the facebook person this time. Thank you for trying, I really appreciate it Unfortunately, we're all entering another lockdown over here from midnight on so, unless the goos are at risk, I think this may have to go on hold! I guess you could argue Skittish's mental well-being is at risk? It's true, my heart might break in two if I have to see Theo by himself for much longer The right degu(s) are out there and they'll be along as soon as they can. Don't lose heart. That is so hard, and I am so very sorry! The delay is necessary but difficult. Thank you both so much I really appreciate everyone taking time to comment and follow this thread. I'll update this thread with any important updates, and of course the most important update of all - when we find a companion for Theo

Found a pair of female degus in Exeter (about 100 miles from us) posted on Pets4Homes, posted 10 days ago (before lockdown grr!). They're 2 years old, so not the age we're looking for ideally.
They're advertising them and their set up for £50 which I'm not keen to pay. I understand and support adoption fees for animals being rehomed through a shelter/rescue, because the fees support the continuation of the shelter, but am reluctant to pay an individual.
Anyway, I sent a brief message expressing an interest and explained we're in Cornwall and therefore not able to travel until the lockdown restrictions are lifted.

Do you have a pets@home nearer to you? If so, would it be possible for them to transport them to the nearer store for you to collect?
It drives me wild when I see pets being dumped just because they no longer fit with your lifestyle. I once told someone who returned a kitten to my local pet shop because their son was allergic to return the kid instead, lol.

Yes a few choice words were shared with my partner along those lines as well!!
I loathe looking at websites like Pets4Homes / Preloved for this very reason. I saw a 6 month old rabbit being advertised because the kids were no longer interested

They replied to my message to say they were bought in the summer and are 10 months old (not 2 years as the advert says).... so much much younger than we are looking for. And they have an image of one of the degus sitting in a bowl of blueberries eating them
