Good grief! What is it with men?!
Last night Spud managed to prolapse. I gave some Metacam and lubricated (it was too swollen last night), and today I go to give the usual suspects meds to find Spud still has issues and now Silly's done it too!

Oh man, that's unfortunate. Degus really do seem to be susceptible to prolapsing. Maybe it's the cone? I've had rats for a long time, well over 10 males all together, and I saw maybe two prolapses during all that time, and those were temporary and easily fixed. Rats and most rodents don't have a cone, rather everything just sits inside in a larger cavity. Maybe the fact that the cone doesn't have any real extra space in it and such makes it especially vulnerable to this? If anything goes wrong, the cone is just too tight to allow a retraction.
Hopefully things will get better for Spud and Silly.

The only reasons for the penis to not fully retract into the cone is damage to the penis itself, causing inflammation, or something else getting caught, such as something sticking to the penis before it goes back in. The cones themselves are quite stretchy!
Silly is sorted, and just has to wait for the swelling to go down. Spud is another matter! I've removed some crud, given Metacam, lubricated, and smothered in manuka honey. I'll see what he's like later and perhaps take him to see John.

Called for an appointment, and was told I could have one in half an hour with Rebecca (Saausage's favourite). They're both staying the night, and Spud will have a GA tomorrow.

Hope all goes well tomorrow.
I wonder what on earth they are doing? I'm imagining some sort of gladiators style battle where they are balancing on a log and trying to knock each other off by waving their penises around! More seriously, do you think there could be some kind of substrate or contact material issue?

The old pugilist battle!
I don't know. They've nearly always had shavings! There's nothing new in the cage sections either.
Since their separation, it's just been Sausage and Spud, and they couldn't be closer. They do their daily "girly slap kickbox" thing for exercise when they're out, but that's it. Because Sausage was still healing when I went away (and because I wanted to make some tweaks), they don't even have a flying saucer.
Silly was possibly just jumped on by Spidey - his is fine, and the swelling just needs time to go down. Silly did overgroom Spidey's backside whilst I was away, but he's fine now.
Even as I'm typing this, Snoozy is cleaning his bits right in front of me!

THAT'S what it was called!
Yes, probably just your boys being boys. It would be nice to have a 1000 participant trial on the safest substrates though.
