None at all! He was absolutely fine a couple of hours before.
Makes you think of parents telling kids "stop playing with it, or it'll fall off!"

OH MY!! I'm so sorry!! It sounds very alarming. What on earth is he doing to himself. I wonder if they make goo sized body cams . . . How do you turn something like that inside out. If they have to amputate . . . I just can't imagine. Have they ever done something like that before?

They sounded very confident. This is John's practice, so I'm happy they know what they're doing.
They did get back to me again - they've trimmed off a couple of spurs (weight loss solved), and will give me an update tomorrow on the swelling. Because they have emergency cover out of hours, there's always a vet in the practice and not just a nurse.
Given they've put trackers on the goos in the Chilian colony they monitor, and you can get tiny cameras, I should think it's more than possible! A day in the life of a goo should be an interesting watch!

Today's update - he's more comfortable. They're keeping him lubricated, and I've asked them to keep going with antiinflammatories etc unless things start to become necrotic. She's going to give him a some cuddles and a tummy raspberry Spud is running around looking concerned, and Snoozy is sulking without his buddy.

The vet didn't quite believe me when I said he had a fan club 🤣

Fingers crossed the antiinflammotories will be enough and he doesn't need surgery.

Fingers crossed the antiinflammotories will be enough and he doesn't need surgery. Absolutely! Apparently, the mortality rate for the surgery is pretty high! He's been well looked after by the surgery staff before, and he's come back full of beans.

I'm so relieved to hear he is doing OK, and things are not getting worse . . . which hopefully means they will soon be getting better. It sounds like they have done this surgery before, if there is a known mortality rate?

Sausage is home. He's sulking with me because I took him away, Snoozygoo has been sulking because I took him away, and Spud has been sulking because he thought I'd killed him! Ok. He is feisty, lively, and there's loads of squeaking going on in the cage. Now the problem. His penis is still prolapsed, and they've told me it's unlikely to go back, so he's stuck like this. I've got a tube of lubricant (yes, everything IS sticking to it), and he has to stay on metacam. Because he loves his wheel (he rules the purple one), and it caused an open wound last time, I've had to take the wheels out. The surgical option really is a last resort. It's a major procedure with a high mortality rate, so it's a last resort.

Glad he's home.
Have you thought about restricting him to a smaller area that doesn't have substrate or some other way of keeping him out of trouble for a few days?

At the moment, he's in the lower level. Snoozy and Spud kept trying to go and see Sausage, but Sneaky kept chasing them back. He'd then go back down to fight Sausage. Little dude was almost catatonic at one point, so I've blocked off the bottom level, given Sausage lots of cuddles, and popped him onto the heat pad. He's now back to lonely cheeps.
It'll be much easier for me to control things when it's their time for free-range, so I'll watch interactions. I'm tempted to put Sneaky in the carry cage for the night. He's pretty much as volatile and violent as Spidey was right now, so a time out is well overdue for the bully.

OH MY!! So . . . the surgical option . . . that is the removal of the penis itself? Poor lovely, Sausage!! Did they give you any Canaural drops to help with the inflammation?
Sounds like a time out for Sneaky will do him, and the other boys, some good.

Sausage is breaking my heart!
They're having free-range. He keeps going up to the others for company, but they keep pushing him away, so he's sat in a dark corner mumbling to himself. Even when he tries to get about, he's struggling to climb the ramp, or jump over the smallest thing because his "equipment" is in the way.
I let him out first, so he had a good roll in the sand first (yeah, I know, but....), and it hasn't helped.

How is he this morning?

He's going back to see John this evening, instead of the others.
It got to the point last night where he was sat in the darkness under my beanbag and legs. Every now and then, Sneaky would appear and try to attack him. He's lacking any agility so, after the last one, I popped him onto my beanbag, put a teatowl over him, whilst I got Sneaky into the carry cage. He spent the night there, and will stay there all day until I take Sausage back to see John. This morning, he was eating, spent the night with Spud and Snoozy, and is a lot chirpier today.
In the meantime, before I put him to bed, I wanted to clean him up for the night and give him some more metacam. I was using wet cotton buds, and am still convinced that the end of the cone is still inside out, and starting to split. I emailed John about my concerns this morning, and he's asked me to come in. I'm convinced the reason his penis won't go back is because the fold of his cone is constricting.

Any news?

Okay. We've just got back. John said I am right to be worried!
He confirmed that, yes, the cone is folded over, but that it's automatic when his penis appears. He thinks it's likely the injury was caused by a Sneaky attack.
He's been debrided, and said the ointment they give me (water based for human eyes) obviously wasn't lasting enough. Instead, he's on a special medical grade manuka honey, apparently the only guaranteed manuka. That will help with inflammation and bacteria, and should last a lot longer than the other moisturiser. It's not as if he willingly takes metacam, so he's unlikely to lick it off. I also have to keep him separate from Sneaky.
I've temporarily put him and Spud on their lowest level (with the heat pad) so he doesn't have to wobble AND has company. If he's still no better towards the end of the week, I'll have to rearrange the habitats so each pair has two levels. As it's Sausage who can't have a wheel, it's going to mean Sausage and Spud on the bottom two levels, then Spidey and Silly, then Snoozy and Sneaky.
With Sneaky removed overnight, they were a happy little group. Sausage was chilled, eating, and moving around without fear. Sneaky sulked. I didn't put him back in until I took Sausage out.

I'm so glad you got him up to see John!! You must be feeling much more confident and assured since seeing him. To have your concerns heard and address, even confirmed, and to be given better options . . . that's a blessing!
