Local rescue has some boys born in march (so I guess that makes them ~ 4-5 months old) that need a forever home. I'm a bit worried that they might be a little old for an introduction to go well to my 8 year old boys. Any thoughts?

Well . . . there is certainly the strong potential that it will not be a quick and smooth introduction. Their ages are fast approaching the chaotic stage of adolescence/young adults. However, you will have to have a cage for them to be in while they are being introduced anyway, right? If you are wanting the boys, and are OK with potentially having them apart always if intros fail, or several months where they just cannot be together but eventually do bond and blend . . . then I would say go for it. Especially if with all your searching and the current state of the world, finding male degus that are older (2+) is just not happening. It depends on what you know you can accommodate and live with.
You know you will fall in love with them, and whatever it works out to be, they will be a big part of your life.

Yep, I'm considering the possibility that they might be at about that age where they want to be in charge, which worries me a little with my poorly one. (who is amazingly active today for an old man with a dodgy heart!) Hopefully they will become friends during the side-by-side stage of introductions.
The rescue has two pairs, one pair is described as "more confident" and the other as "rather skittish". I'm considering the skittish ones because I know I can win them over eventually and other people might not be so forgiving...
