I gave them some fresh herbs last night and they all looked at me like "what is this???" Despite coming from a rescue centre, I kind of feel like I rescued them from there as they weren't in the nicest environment

I totally understand! When I was looking at the photos of the girls, my first thought was that they would soon be looking much better after being in your care for a bit.

Give them time. Mine are used to me chucking in fresh stuff, but there's still times when I get that look too. Just leave it there, walk away and, hey presto! It's vanished!

Oh sweet, they look sort of meek and hesitant - I bet that doesn't last long lol!
how outrageous of the rescue to be breeding, and presumably charging a sizeable rehoming fee!

Thats so sweet of you, thank you. They took it upon themselves today to remove the sheet of wood that was blocking the two halves of the cage...I have no idea how as it was big, heavy and wedged under the shelf and they didn't have a ladder to get to it, and are now all snuffling round and chattering to each other. I didnt even realise they had done it! But so far they seem to be getting on well, I will be keeping a very close eye on them though!

Amazing! Within 24 hours they were all snuggled in the hammock together and Lily is so much happier. She's no longer a little puffy ball of stress!

When I had to separate mine in the Adventura cage, I blocked off the hole with a large heavy slate place mat. Then sat back and watched Dixie casually pull it out of the way with his teeth! The only thing that could stop them was a very large, marble chopping board that I could barely lift. Degus are MUCH stronger than they look! Lol.
