Hello, my friend introduced me to degus and I admit I kinda fell in love. But the thing is, I was planning on adopting a budgie but now I would love to have a degus too. So my question is, are budgies and degus compatible ? Can they live peacefully together in the same home ( of course not in the same cage ) ? Thank you very much for your answers

There are a couple of members on here who keep both birds and degus, in particular budgies, so I don't see why not! If you'd like some first hand experiences, I'm sure they'll comment

Living in their own cages, they will not bother each other. Degus will adapt to the budgie noises, and not be alarmed by the sudden screeches that can happen.
Until you know your budgie well, and are sure of its personality and traits, I would not let them out at the same time. A degu tail may look like a tempting budgie toy or snack. Budgies have very strong, sharp beaks and can do serious damage, as well as the claws on their feet. They can do serious damage very quickly if they want to. I've had many budgies, had a huge cage with over a dozen at one time. There was one we adopted, initially named Buttercup who quickly became "Spawn of Satan" as this bird had serious mental issues and was essentially trying to be a serial killer. Worst was when she attacked another bird, broke half his beak off, ripped holes in him all over his head, and was ripping at his throat trying to get through the feathers as I finally got my hands in the cage to save him. After that, Satan lived alone and just spent her days screeching in her cage. (Oh, but don't worry, this was the one and only bad bird of more than 20 over the years. Some aact tough, some may be a little aggressive, but a Spawn of Satan is a very rare bird indeed.) So, moral of that story is, don't mix your degus and budgies even just at playtime unless you are 100% confident you have a very gentle budgie. Bird keepers don't mix budgies with other birds, like finches, canaries, other small parrots, either, as they can hurt them.

I would suggest leaving a good amount of time in between getting two different kinds of new pet. The learning curve and costs can get out of hand and be a lot more than you expect for budgies and degus. And, I think budgies should really be in pairs, so that would be a complication finding a friend for the single budgie, and degus are commonly mis-sexed so that gets complicated v quickly. I'll link our beginner's guide to degus and then you can get a good idea of what is involved all in one place deguworld.proboards.com/thread/19754/beginners-guide-degu-keeping

I have both budgies and degus. They require different environmental conditions and a lot of your time and attention. My budgies have a room that is warm with reasonable humidity with no drafts. My degus live in a separate room that is cooler. They never meet - even the sound of birds freaks out my degus.
Both require company of their own kind. Degus cost more to care for. Both make a lot of mess (degus a lot more mess than the budgies) and will likely require vet care - though my degus require a lot more vet care than my budgies.
