I am so very sorry. Ginger was such a special Degu. My heart just aches for you and Princess. The pictures of Ginger show a beautiful and happy looking little Degu. You took the very BEST care of her, but I fear it was just too much for her to bear. You comforted her and made her passing as peaceful as possible. My friend, there was nothing more you could do. You loved her and that says alot. You and Princess will be there for one another. We all care too.

so sorry to hear the news. I had been following her progress as you posted. So sorry you lost her in the end. Be comforted that you gave her the very best care she could possibly have got, and you were there for her when she needed you.

Once again, thank you everybody for the support regarding Ginger. It really does make me feel like I lost a close friend. I'm mainly concerned about Princess now. She has been so depressed and even warbling herself to sleep. I know she's so lonely but I called around today to different pet stores and of course the humane society to see if anybody had any female degus or if they could order some for me. No luck anywhere but the humane society has two boys and it got me thinking "what if I get the two boys fixed"? I dont know how that would work out exactly so I'm a little worried about getting Princess a friend. I just hate seeing her so obviously depressed all the time.

it might be easier to get princess spayed than get 2 males neutered... the only forseeable problem would be fighting among the males over princess. in the meantime spends as much time as possible cuddling princess and giving her lots of attention and love, she will come to rely on you as her degu friend until you can get new cagemates.

As I mentioned, I had made a formal complaint with the better business bureau of Toronto against the first veterinary office I took Princess and Ginger to. I got a reply back from the doctor which included a letter of apology and a full refund for all services rendered.
I now feel slightly bad about how harsh I came across in the complaint but at the same time, Ginger has since passed and it still bothers me to think maybe if it had of been taken care of in the beginning, she wouldnt have gotten to the point of starving herself.
Regardless of "what if's", I received a refund which is what I wanted, Princess and any of my other pets will never visit them again and I can now pay off some of the bill for the new doctor.
Just thought I might update because I know a few of you were disgusted with the things I had to endure with that vet.
In other fabulous news, The humane society has a couple female degus that came in with the two males. The females are in foster care right now to make sure they arent pregnant and I emailed the head of the small animal department requesting that she contact me when they are available.
So in a month or so Princess may have some new cage mates!
