Oh man, 8 months? That's crazy. I'm impressed you came out of that sane! I underestimated how much I like peace I'm watching on my tv, so I could turn on my computer. Honestly I more use my tv for background noise anyway while I read, so it isnt a big deal. And I doubt it's really the TV allowing for peace, but I'll guess I'll see tonight!

WELL CRAP!! There is definitely a bee in one or both bonnets! It is possible that it isn't even dominance issues but a bit of a personality problem. Sometimes degus just don't get along for a while. It's hard to say really. At this stage they should be settled . . . but it also isn't the first time we have had a member with degus around the 2 years old mark that have had a falling out. I wonder if it is something like a "last hurrah" stage. LOL! Once you reach three years of age you're pretty much not climbing the ladder anymore. HA!! If they/one of them starts to take Pads on (Did I get the name right?) you'll know it is a ladder climbing coup.

Yeah, wasn't thrilled when it happened! I'm leaning dominance, so I really hope it isnt personality differences! These two are always hanging out. Pads (Padfoot) is the one who sometimes takes a break from them and sleeps elsewhere. Haha, hopefully this is their version of a middle aged crisis and then its smooth sailing from here on out I actually do think there was a coup attempt from Prongs earlier. Pads has had bald patches on his hips for about a month now. I couldn't figure out what it was. But now Moony is getting them, and it seems like that's where Prongs likes to pull and try to control others from! But Pads is usually 20-30g heavier than the others, so I think he shut that down quickly.

Well, today has been a day for separation. Moony and Prongs were separated starting at 7am. They've only had four or so 30min time periods together since then. So a bit of a discouraging day in that regard. In good news! When I woke up at 6:30 to goos fighting, Pads decided my hand made an excellent cuddle partner! He groomed my fingers and fell asleep on me until I finally had to separate his brothers

Something I sometimes do with Spidey when he starts picking on one of the others (usually Scaredy) may help. After he's had numerous warnings as the instigator, he gets time out in the carry cage until he calms down. To rub it in, I put the carrier about a foot from the main cage, and put it at the height of the level where the two are hanging out. When he sees what he's missing out on, and his temper has run itself down, he's safe to go back.
As long as you can spot who has started it, it may help?

I really like that idea Bouncy! Glad Spidey is reasonable when his temper cools Unfortunately it's really difficult to tell who the instigator is right now. Honestly kind of feels like both of them. It's probably a horrible idea to put both fighters in a small travel cage together as time out, right?

Lol kinda defeats the object, except for giving Pads some peace and quiet lol

Haha poor Pads deserves some peace and quiet!
They've all been together since 11pm last night (now almost 1pm next day). Moony and Prongs are still fighting, but it's mostly just following each other around all the time. I swear, goos are like kids sometimes. If hes annoying you, then just stop being near him!

I apparently shouldn't post any decent updates on them. They had an almost FBOD which reopened Prongs cheek wound. So they're separated again.

Apparently! Silver lining is that at least this is happening at a time when I can be with them constantly.

They can be downright brats!! One of our boys who was practically blind had a real hate on for one of the girls . . . they WERE together at the time, but we also knew that the girls(that we had brought home as Vet certified males) were already pregnant again following the shocking appearance of pups on the same day . . . anyway . . . for completely unfathomable reasons, Snug suddenly totally hated this one girl and he would track her through the whole cage and when he found her (by scent) he would totally attack her. When this started . . . we bought wood right away and had a new cage built within three days. In the mean time . . . Snug and Peek had to live in the travel cage so as to keep the targeted girl safe.
He was relentless!
Determining which one is the aggressor can be very difficult. I hope you are able to figure that part out.

Oh no, that's crazy! I really wish I understood degu sometimes. Their leaps in logic are behind me!
Yeah, I hope so too. It's hard because at this point they're both following each other and not backing down.

In our home . . . the instigator always had the most wounds. I don't know if that is because they were the worst fighters or what, but it never failed that when we had truly discerned which one was picking the fights, they also had more wounds. You could examine the two of them, brushing their fur forward and see if there is a visible difference in the number of scabs and bite marks you find. Might prove absolutely nothing, but least then you'll know if there are wounds you need to keep an eye on.

Hm, that is interesting. Prongs currently has the most visible wounds (just cheek and forehead). He's been a little flighty with all the fighting though, so I dont know if he'll let me check through his fur.
I think I usually see more wounds on the more dominant goo in the fight. Pads always comes out with more wounds. I wonder if hes just holding back a bit to try not to hurt his brothers, or he doesn't have the same drive to move up in the hierarchy? No idea.

Hmmm . . . or . . . maybe he is tired of being dominant? HA HA!! Do you know if he is the same age as the other boys, or is there the possibility that he is older?
