Sorry for the late response everyone I’ve been spending a lot of time with my Deco. It’s day 4 and she has really gotten used to us now, she has started to climb on my partner and I and is way less jumpy. We added some more levels within her cage so she has a bit more space. Things seem to be going swimmingly, sometimes she makes noises that worry me but the more time I spend with her the less worried I get. I’m not sure how normal it is but she absolutely loves to sit right in front of our heater. Always a little worried that it’s too hot, put a thermometer next to her and it was 32 decreased C, but I guess if she was hot she would move haha. Thanks again for all the help so far

Should mention that the ambient temperature of the room was originally 24c but she complained so we upped it eventually to 27c all day

Degus love a heat source or bathing in sunlight. 24c is absolutely fine and is probably on the warm side for human comfort, 27c makes me think she is playing you lol You can provide localised heat in the form of a heatpad or heat lamp if that is more convenient.

I think it's definitely a goo thing to lounge in heat! Just be wary that degus can't cool themselves by sweating. As moletteuk suggests, a more localised heat source may be more appropriate. Have a look at a ceramic heater or basking lamps for reptiles

Little worried about leaving a plug in heater on for too long, especially whilst we are sleeping. Overall our little girl has acclimatized to her location it seems and has started to happily sit on our laps. She has definitely learnt our weak spots too, hard to keep her in her cage haha

You could use a timer switch? When she's snuggled in bed at night, she won't be as worried about a heat source. Alternatively, you may be able to find a local product similar to this? www.petnap.co.uk/product/flexiguard-petnap-pet-heat-pad/Very low voltage. Each of my groups has one that is left on permanently, but you will need to make a cover for it first. Mine spend a lot of time on theirs.
