Did not know these guys had Degu. I will be looking in to them in the new year when we get new shelves for our cage sorted. Already missing the Degu antics on a daily basis. Wish I had the shelves now so I could take the group as our cage is big enough and I doubt many people will have the space.

You could always give them a call now and get the ball rolling.

What I might do isn’t give them a ring and donate the sealed bag of food I have left. It will be ages until I have the shelves sorted and as much as I’d love a group I doubt they will be there when we are ready.

I'm in contact with them via Twitter, I've told them to give me a shout if they get more degus coming in, so I'll post on here if they do.
Apparently, they get quite a few.

I think I’ll go see about getting some shelves made tomorrow. Donna will kill me, but it will be worth it.

You know if you go there, you'll come back with at least one degu in your pocket, lol.

I really don't want to get you in trouble, Keith . . . but I think you need to go over there and meet some of these degus. I think that group might just be destined for your home.

It’s Cobweb Blair etc I would be looking at. It’s a big group and they’re gonna need a big cage.

They look a nice group. 7 will need a lot of space.
Problem is, I'd want to bring them all home, singles, doubles and large groups, lol.

keithdonna I'm sure you will anyway, but just wanted to mention doing a full disinfect and/or steam clean on your full setup since we don't really know what happened with your Ice Age boys.

That’s what’s stopping me, already pressure washed most of it and the other bits I’m replacing. It all needs to be disinfected and pressure washed again. Then all the wooden perches etc replaced and hammocks etc replaced too. Not cheap at this time of year.

Yes, it's all time and effort and money. I can recommend F10 as a safe disinfectant, you can soak everything with it.

Steam cleaning will be very effective in getting deep into joins and cracks and having the whole thing sanitized for new babies. I don't know where you would go to rent one, but if you can rent one, it will be a great tool for you.
Your loss is still so fresh. We all grieve differently. I'm the sort that doesn't want to wait for new family members, I just go out and look for the the right ones to fit in. The one time I waited and waited, was probably the hardest I have ever experienced when we finally did bring a new family member back in. While others feel they must wait. We do what works for us.

I’m similar I would love a new group. I needed a week or two to mourn them properly but the house feels empty without the noise of them shuffling around and talking to each other. Donna isn’t so keen so it’s something we will have to decide together. If it were up to me I would be sorting everything today, but compromise is a must.

We have talked and we are going to wait until the new year before getting and more Degu. That was our plan. Donna still isn’t ready and getting xmas out of the way will help with the expense of getting the cage sorted.

Understandable! A wise plan of action. Wish I could give you both a great big hug! Grief is not an easy path.
