Hey guys I’m need of advise . My degu jumped off my bed and now he’s holding his leg up . He is putting a lightweight on it sometimes but not much . Rang vets they said to rest him give him metacam and see how he is in morning. Question is what’s the chances he’s broken it or just sprained it ? The swelling came out pretty quick but like I say he’s putting a tiny bit of weight on it

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about his accident.
I think he's probably sprained it if he's putting weight on it. Do you have a snugglesafe or something similar to encourage him to rest it? Is the metacam making a difference.
Also, do you have an appointment to see the vet?
Please let us know how he gets on.

I haven’t noticed much difference yet with the metacam. He is quiet and in his bed . I have placed him in an indoor rabbit cage so he isn’t going up and down his level as he has a massive cage . I did check him over about half hour ago and he did put his paw down on my hand . The vets told me to ring in the morning they wouldn’t X-ray tonight if I take him so may aswell keep him home and quiet . I really hope it’s just a Sprain . He didn’t cry out or anything when it happened or at all in the matter . I feel really bad he’s 7 so he’s fragile

7 isn't that old for a degu, they can live much longer than that. One of mine, Bumblebee, dropped from a height when he rolled off his ledge in his sleep and landed badly on his side. It too came up in a lump which turned into a haematoma that needed to be surgically removed when the swelling didn't go down, but they are little tough guys.
The metacam should help until the morning when he gets to the vet. But you're doing the right thing by limited his activity.

Hello Lynz84, and welcome to the forum!!
I'm sorry he has fallen and is wounded! That must have scared you a great deal! It would have scared me. I think taking him in tomorrow morning is a good plan, as is keeping him quiet and comfy in familiar surroundings. I hope all goes well, but whether it is a break, a bruise, or a sprain, you will have to keep him quiet for a while so that it can heal up. Putting him in a smaller cage without levels is a good plan!
I echo Savvy's request to hear how he is getting on.

The vets have said to keep him rested and give him metacam for a few days to see how it goes . And I’ve done the right thing keeping him in a cage which is one level . If no improvement after a few days we need to X-ray . So fingers crossed . I’m just worried about how he’s going to eat properly .

Keep everything close by; water and food, so that he can reach it easily. As the metacam starts to take effect, he'll most likely get more active.
Keep in touch.

See if you can check everything is in the right place, a dislocation or anything out of alignment affecting blood flow would need immediate attention. Best way is to feel and compare with other side or watch to see if he is occasionally weight bearing in a way that looks alright. A heatpad can encourage rest. If you weigh him regularly you will get an indication of how much he is struggling to eat. You can break food up smaller to help him eat or even offer some Critical Care if he is struggling.
