Sorry, one more question.
I would like to get a bit of climbing wood/branch for my degus cage - the nearest I’ve found to what I’m envisaging is an extra large sandblasted grapevine branch.
Is this fine?!

Generally speaking, anything (stuff, not food) safe for birds and reptiles is safe for degus. Large birds, and even just budgies, will chew up branches and shelves also, so the woods their stuff is made from has to be edible-safe for them.

Oops, reptile stuff made from artificial substances, resins, rubbery branches, etc, would not be safe for degus because if they chew up and eat the artificial stuff it probably would be "very not good" for them.

Yeah, I definitely figured the beaches made out of plastic/rubber etc wouldn’t be good for them at all. I wouldn’t mind finding a branch myself, but I’m still learning how to identify safe trees without making mistakes. The grapevine I’m looking at is fairly small for the cage length I have, but it’ll do for now until I can find a suitable branch of edible wood. I’m scared of picking up a beautiful piece of twisty branch on the ground under a tree and incorrectly believing it comes from the tree it’s under... and being wrong and poisoning the degus. 🤦🏻♀️ So I want to be absolutely sure I can correctly identify trees before I go down that route lol

Most UK native deciduous trees are safe, so do keep an eye out for fallen or accessible branches, you can post photos for help with ID.
