My degus often makes noises when they sleep/rest.. but that's more like cute faint beeps sounds... but today one of them woke me up really early Z_Z
One of my boys started to squeak really loud in middel of the night ( i woke up to it..he woke his brother too ) ... I could see on his fur that he was all puffed up with his ears back...and his brother seemed alerted. (they often have puffed hair when waking up from sleep..)
I turned on the light.. started talking to him and give him dandelion roots to chew on.. -He would take it and eat it while squaking .... he calmed down after 2mins..
He went back into his "sleeping hut" shortly after i truned the light off ( it was really late so... i was hopeing to sleep more )...
I could hear they started to make sleeping noises again.. but after some 15 - 20ish mins he started to squak again..but he was still inside the "hut" where they sleep.. so it makes me wounder if it was nightmares he had...( it's really quiet here at night , and i couldn't find any noices that could have scared him)
I would call on him and he would be quiet for a moment ( 1-2mins)..then conintue shortly after - not so load this time but..still loud enough for me to not sleep.. so i decide to stay up( after 3mins).. The squaking is gone and they're now sleeping..while i am awake XD

Hello, the squeaking noises is a alert noise they often do it when they feel sacred or something has upset them. I’m guessing your degu had a nightmare and wanted to let you and his cage mate know. I’ve had my fair share of early morning/midnight wake ups from mine. How old are your degus?Mine are mostly in their adulthood now so they dont do it as much. I hope this helps and the puffed up thing is when napping or sleeping is to keep warm and holds the heat in.

There's two options... The alarm call that DL21 mentioned or he might have been doing a few... Erm extracurricular... activities during the night as it can be their mating/I-just-performed-fellatio call Boys are notoriously horny little b**gers who enjoy pleasuring themselves on an alarmingly regular basis. They also like to announce it to the world too. when my boy does his best squeaky toy impersonation he'll generally spend the entire day pestering and x-rated humping poor Watson. Have you made sure that both degus are definitely male?

I don't know their age ( like when they where born)..since i bought them from a pet store.. The pet store - said that they where not over 6 months old..I assume they're 7-8months old now.. Since they look grown up ..but you can still see they're very playful and active.. I know they're both boys 100% ..i seen under them

So they're entering their adolescent phase then you're in for an eye-opening experience into the depravity of small rodents What do you meam by seen under them? Both males and females have a urethral cone that people sometimes mistake for a penis, so it's the gap between the cone and the anus that you need to check if you haven't already
