Hi it has been a while since I have posted been moving house. One of my degu has a tumour for about a month bet says the operation will kill him. He has been great until today. Now won’t leave the heat pad taking just a very slow walk taking long big gulps of air. He doesn’t seem to be in pain though. Is it that awful time to put him to sleep?

It's got to be your decision, but I'm sorry to say it does sound like it.
Degus don't normally breathe through the mouth at all. Is the tumour obstructing his breathing?

I'm sorry Allan! Breathing difficulties are not a good sign, and I agree it's probably time. It is true that degus can carry on fairly normally with tumours, as moletteuk can attest, but struggling to take air in means they can't do anything else, especially eat or drink
