It may end up looking a bit, er, ugly when I'm done, but it should be robust and can be dismantled flat!

It won't be ugly!! Besides . . . call it "industrial" and you'll have a very on trend product!

Oooh, found my old post! OK, so the aluminium profile still didn't arrive for another couple of months so, in the meantime, I made the floors. This was done in three segments for each level to make it easier to work with. Each piece of white furniture board is edged with aluminium against those pesky teeth. I also started stalking the profile company because Sneaky and Spud were rapidly expanding their hole in the wall, and Snoozy and Sausage had pulled the mesh apart on the old cage, tho none actually made an effort to escape (idiots). Patience was rewarded at the start of June! As well as seven upright posts........ Each piece needed a 11mm hole at each end for the fixings. Ordinarily, I could have paid the profile company £1 for each hole. Instead, my drill and I spent the weekend in my mum's garden making a mess!

Having done that (and had my wrists splinted for ages to recover), it was time to build some walls. I tried to do as much of the small panels first as I could, because I was going to be VERY short of space..... Note those beautifully drilled holes

There were a few days before electrical services were restored, mostly because I had to take the other two cages apart. As you can see, sulking took place. Even when the lights were restored, they still sulked after their heat pads! But all was finally finished! The oldies have the bottom three levels, and the four delinquents have the top three. Each level ended up being about 10,500cm 2.

WOW!!! That is AMAZING!! That was a lot of work and planning and waiting and pain . . . and it's AWESOME, Bouncy!! I love it! I bet the boys do, too!
So . . . did you lose space to the degus with this new build, or create new space for all of you?

The goos have more space, and so do I without that overhang! They all seem happy, and I have a lovely photo of Sausage and Spud leaning over to chat to Spidey, Silly, and Scaredy about their PWDs, with Snoozy and Sneaky acting as lookouts! A full change incl burrows does take over a full bale of Bedmax, though!

WOW!! I was looking at the amounts of substrate in each level and thinking that it must be quite a lot to take out and put in again! That's a hard day of cleaning! I hope you do it in increments, one or two levels each day when it is time for a clean out. So as to not totally exhaust yourself.

Because the access is so open, I think it took three hours to do the whole cage, including the burrows. That was with ready assistance from Spidey and Sausage. The biggest problem is bin space. Our local authority won't take anything that doesn't fit in your bin. My neighbour had been away over Christmas, so I borrowed his bin too for a total of five bags, but still had two more for the week after.

Definitely ntg! The boys love it, and that's all that matters! Must admit to getting the tree branches slightly wrong the first time - Sausagegoo went to go up, but the branch see-sawed him down again

It was! But it was also totally unexpected! His eyes remained focussed on the opening, whilst he went slowly down and his head went further back!
