Misscatafer, do you rinse it with water? Is that something it can withstand or will it speed up the disintegration of it?
I had forgotten that we have also been recommending that people place the puppy pads beneath the cocomat to absorb the pee and make the cleaning process a little bit easier. So, wood shavings, or carefresh, or puppy pads . . . they will all help to control urine.

I never personally rinsed them out, not sure if anyone else does this though!

@molleteuk They love their new home. They were a little bit nervous in the beginning but now they settled down and got used to the new environment. I thought the wheel is large enough for both of them but I see them fighting over which one will use it. Actually they could both run but it is uncomfortable and from what I noticed I think I spoiled them to much and now they want everything to be easy and comfy. I see that the top shelf on the 2nd floor is not used much. There's nothing much to do there, yet.. I put that aluminium tube (left side of cage) that they could use to go up and down but they seldom use it. They picked 2 spots on the 1st floor where they sit on each other and they nap. I noticed Lala has sometimes second thoughts to leave the cage when I let them go outside. I think it's the height. When I open the lower door I put a small lining room glass table so that the door will sit on it. From there they jump on the carpet. deguconvertI don't know where the other one is in the pic. usually they hide behind the yellow plastic ..thingy.. I am thinking maybe I can vacuum the poo, as for the pee it leaves a white mark on the coco. maybe once a month I will do a general cleaning, I will see..

I had another look, and still only see one degu at a time, but realized that in one photo there is a degu on the wheel, and in another photo there is one peeking out the front.
We recommend wheels that are at least 12 inches/30 cm across for degus, but larger is better. Do you know what the diameter of your wheel is? I mention this because your wheel looks a bit small for your degus.

I think they might use the top shelf more when there is more up there and maybe the metal tube is a bit difficult for them to use. I also think they would like it more if it is bigger and stretches to the front because it will make the best look out place, degus can't resist a good view. Degus usually really like to be able to get back to the safety of the cage easily when they are playing out of the cage, so maybe if you can make the route in and out simpler to use at speed if something frightens them, it will build their confidence. Maybe you have some wood offcuts to make ramps with, or an old rug over the coffee table can make it easy to run up the side. I actually think it's quite fun watching how they first use a new cage and figuring out how to make it suit them. Obviously it's not great if it costs you more money, but I'm sure you are nearly there now. I think I shared links on wheel making before, but all the accessory making links are here anyway: deguworld.proboards.com/thread/18716/accessories-make-buy

Hi,
The wheel has 27 cm diameter. I know it's small and like I said in a previous post it deforms when they rjn on it. The plastic is thin. I have in plan building a metal one from baking pan. They prefer the wheel instead of the saucer..
I improvised a lader from remaining pieces of wood they climb it very easily. If scared they quickly run under the sofa or under the Tv table.
I will stretch the tube to the front and see how they work with it.
