For adoption to be paired – Lone Degu, Billy, 3 yearold male

Hi, everyone,


We unfortunately lost our degu Ian on Wednesday 6th February very suddenly and unexpectedly. Billy is his cage mate who is now a lone degu looking for a new male companion or pack.



As we live in flat and both work during the week we would not be able to dedicate the space and time to be able to pair Billy with a new degu. We believe it would be unfair for us to leave them in their own cages while at work before they are paired. This has been a heartbreaking decision for us but we know it is the best for him.



Billy is roughly 3 years old and we have owned him for a year and a half. He is a very dominant degu and knows what he likes, he is very energetic and loves his wheel. He had the sweetest relationship with his cage mate Ian but has never been fond of human interaction. We believe he either wasn't handled much at all before we took care of him or he may have been separated too early from his mother at birth. This means it is even more important for us to find him a new degu as soon as possible.



He has coped really well with the loss of Ian, probably even more so than us! We are happy to also provide his current cage (Cozypet RC03) and left over food and toys should it be required.



We would like the new owner to have experience in pairing degus successfully mainly due to Billy's dominant nature. We would also appreciate updates to how he is doing from time to time so we know he is doing well and enjoying his new home.

I'd like to add, we don't mind hiring a car and driving within a 2 hour radius of SW London to offer him his new perfect home

We took him to Raystede in East Sussex. I did also contact Degu Den but I didn't hear back. After we took him to Raystede we were contacted by a lady who has gone through a similar loss and looking for a new partner for her 4 year old male, she is in contact with Raystede and hoping she can now adopt Billy.

Fingers crossed we will have a Billy and Barry pairing
