Good cage choice! There's loads you can do to add extra levels etc to this cage as well.
I must warn you now though, that we expect lots and lots of pictures of your degus settling into their new home.
Welcome to the forum. If you have any questions, please don't be afraid to ask, there really are no silly ones when it comes to degus.

We are going to get it all set up for them 1st. Then try and get the degus.
Problem is. I live it northen Ireland and they seem very hard to get.
One place stopped selling them just before we got there. And no one seems willing to order them in. So the hunt will begin in a couple of weeks

Have you tried local rescue centres? They do get them in on occasions, also you can place an ad in our adoption section to say you're looking.

Groups of males or females, even male and female, they can and will fight if they do not have a bond. They are so full of personality and character that they are in many ways like us . . . you can have a room full of people and still not like any one of them! Some people you click with, and some you do not. Same with degus . . . and it can be very difficult to know if they will bond, especially if you are getting degus that do not know each other. However, it is very important to have at the very least two, and three tends to be even better. Degus live in colonies, like the meercat, and in the wild a colony can be dozens, which of course is dependent on many factors . . . available nutrition, number of predators, illness in the group, and so forth . . . anyway, they like lots of company. Most of us can't keep dozens, who would have cages or homes large enough to accommodate that many, so if you can swing something between 2-4 than you are doing well by them. Usually we recommend either all male or all female. Sometimes having a neutered male and one or two females is the route that needs to be followed . . . because they multiply like crazy you don't want to have an intact male with any females!!
If you can find a group of well bonded degus (hopefully all one sex) than don't split them up if at all possible. The hierarchy within the group is complex and there is no way of truly knowing who is best friends, who hates each other, or if there is an "I hate you, but can tolerate you since X also lives with us," kind of relationship balance in play.
Hmmm . . . I've not helped much, have I?

It's sometimes best to go for an older, already bonded pair as it saves you having to go through their teenage years (6-18mths) where they can be stroppy, hormone driven little fluffies.

Lol degus are weirdos. You can think about a good group, take them home thinking they're cuddly together, then six months down the line, they throw you a curve ball!
I've got two groups, all male. One group is of three, with an alpha who is seriously deranged, but adorable. The second is of four, made up of a pair of 2.5yr old brothers, and a pair of six month old brothers. I'm fully expecting hormonal chaos with the larger group, but what's the bet it's picked up on and acted out by the smaller, middle-aged group lol

Thank u very much.
I'm not a very handy person soo not really sure if I'll be able to add extra levels.
I guess I could get sheet metal and maybe be able to bend the edge on the bars.
But yea I'm not a handy person lol

Honestly, I'm not that handy either the way I did my levels was the first bit of DIY I've ever really done and it was actually really easy to do as long as you or someone you know has a jigsaw, a drill and a hammer. Alternatively, there are loads of places that will make levels and things and do custom sizes. I'm guessing you're in the UK, if so then there's a few sellers I've listed for wooden items here: deguworld.proboards.com/thread/22520/wooden-cage-accessories

I'd never done any DIY either . . . then I built two HUMONGOUS cages from wood, and they were wonderful. You'll be surprised what you can do, and we are glad to advise as you need.

With the shelves. Thanks gunna get stuff organised and will have it all done in a couple of weeks I'd say. Probably less. Thanks Infact his stuff looks perfect lol Oh yea. I've heard degus like to burrow but it doesn't really seem possible do that with the cages you need. I assume that nesting boxes are fine enough for them?

Once I had a tray to put across the bottom, I attached perspex to the outside of the stand - one burrow basement!
