I've been spending the past couple of days reading about pens and desperately trying to find one which isn't tiny with wide spaced bars. It's looking pretty clear that making one is the best way to go, but feeling a bit overwhelmed by the idea - does anyone have tips?

This one has been very successful, and has been made by more than one member. deguworld.proboards.com/thread/21316/new-play-pen Look for the one on page two that is black. There are many nice things about it. It's inexpensive, very light weight, folds up really nicely, and the degus don't go after it. Black colouring seems to be a key component to the success, as well as the material.

Thanks, deguconvert! I’ve ordered some correx and my goos should have a lovely pen in 3-5 working days

Good choice with the correx - my pen is still holding up really well, no damage or escapes since making it 16 months ago. Make sure you use the thick black masking tape (think we used gorilla tape) to hold it all together.

Just wanted to say thank you for the advice - built the pen this evening and they’re loving it! It’s lush to see them zooming around. And because I’m not trying to stop Dianna escaping, I can spend more time taming Aretha as she’s a little more shy

Woohoo! Perhaps sit in the middle of the pen - it won't be long before you become a climbing frame, and they do like to try and jump! I had one who deliberately climbed up just to get to the kitchen worktops, without realising I was sat in front of the kitchen sink.......
