Oh they are the epitome of weird, but I wouldn't have them any other way, lol.
At least they don't ask for pocket money.

No, no pocket money, but they still manage to get enough money out of us! They're like those little children who flutter their eyelids, then stamp their feet (or paws) until the parents give way!

Why oh why did I know it was Pets at Home, lol. They are notorious for giving bad advice about degus which is why they've stopped selling them. As it was p@h I would also suggest that you verify his sex before getting him a companion as they are known for getting that wrong too. Swapping the plastic out for wood is a great idea, I'd recommend covering the wood with something that can be cleaned or it'll get really stinky with urine in no time at all. They really haven't. There's a pair in my local PaH at the moment. Technically they're "rescues", but they're still in a thickets, you still have to pay to get them... They've just changed how they sell them.

To top it all off, they're not just returned pets, either. Any animals that go past their "sell by" date because they not babies any more, or are colours that just don't sell (like Fidget and Twitch the gerbils because Fidget has red eyes), they get shoved into the rescue section. If you read their reasons for adoption, it's because they either didn't get on with their brothers and sisters, or their owner could no longer keep them. If you ask the staff for more information, they are either clueless because they can't think of a back story fast enough, or they just tell you the truth.
I really wish Pets 4 Homes would end their relationship with this pet shop, who are using them as their own personal animal disposal service, rather than taking responsibility.

We were told by pets at home that Herman didn’t get along with his brother that’s why they were separated, they were both in tiny cages.x Tiny cages = fighting! The pet shop that never learns! Every time I left a review on their website for their Thickets cage (supposedly big enough for four), I quoted the RSPCA guidelines. Funnily enough, my reviews were always removed lol Don't worry, everyone here has been through the false information stage........
