Hi Everyone!
Just a question for anyone really, a few months ago I brought a snuggle safe heat pad for Carl. He absolutely loves it but has now completely shredded the fleece cover to pieces. I don't really want to leave it without a cover, as straight from the microwave I think it'll be to hot for his little feet!
And suggestions on material I could use to make a cover with? Replacements at £8 on amazon is a bit expensive for me!
Ps, Happy New Year!

Pop in to somewhere like The Range. They do some really cheap fleece blankets you can cannibalise to make a new cover.

Or try getting a cheap fleece top from a charity shop, wash it well and cut it up for covers.

I've given up using the covers, I'm scared some of our little zoo might actually eat it rather than just destroy it. I've started using a biscuit tin for mine, it's just deep enough to hold the snugglesafe & the tin stays warm as long as the snugglesafe does. Problem solved! I have seen the covers for sale on Amazon (& probably ebay too) Some are the 'official' ones, some are small businesses that make other fleece items. If you can sew, making a simple slip cover should be easy enough, you can get a cheap fleece blanket that should make loads from Poundstretchers, Wilkos, Argos etc.
Please also consider that fleece is made of plastic fibres - not only a concern for the animals we use them around, but also when washed they release fibres into the ocean. It might factor in to your decision.

Hi All,
Thank for your help. I think I'm going ro try Randomname's suggestion and give the biscuit tin a go. Especially if Carls going to keep destroying them haha!
Randomname- just checking, do you use the lid of the tin and place that on top, or actually put the heat pad in the tin? (might be a very dumb question but want to double check anyway!). Also if you are putting the heat pad in the tin, do you add any hay or anything with it?

Hi heathersue, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I just put the hot pad in the tin & put the lid on. I tried to cover the tin in a pile of straw, but they kept sweeping it off & sitting on the tin, so that's what we're doing now. The tin I use for the degus is the exact right size, but one of my chinchilla ones is in a tin that's too big, so I fill the empty space with straw ('cos it's an insulator & holds the heat) Either way, she just ignores it, but she's like that!

When my goos were in their destructive stage I used a roses tin lid for a cover too. I put some pieces of adhesive velcro on the heatpad and the corresponding pieces on the lid and that would stop the lid overheating from direct contact with the pad and would stop the blighters flipping the lid off. I didn't use the rest of the tin, just the lid.

That's what one of mine is bouncy - good old blue Danish butter cookies tin (aka the sewing tin, but I threw away the stuff 'cos I haven't sewed anything in a decade!)
