Hi! I'm trying to switch my degus to loose bedding (aspen and carefresh) from their current fleece linings. I've looked into the Bass Equipment pans for my double CN, but their a little pricey, so I've decided to go a homemade route. I'm planning on making 3" deep pans out of wood. I'm set on using poplar for the sides, but I'm not sure about the bottom yet. Do you think I could use plywood as a base and cover it with linoleum tiles to pee-proof it? The plywood would be completely covered up and the linoleum would be covered with bedding.

We did that, and it has worked just fine. Make sure you stick the linoleum tiles down tightly so there is no leakage through the seams. Been 7 years now and those floor levels are fully intact and easily cleaned.

I've used a thick perspex for a shelf before, which has been fine - just take care to pre-drill for any holes.
I've also got shelves made of mdf and covered with adhesive plastic/vinyl. For full coverage, consider covering the board fully before attaching the sides. That way, it's sealed and the goos can chew the edges without eating vinyl.
