This is Thea, my 13y old. And the hole she's been gnawing in the back wall of her cage... I really need to fix it. She's such a brat. Been doing this for as long as I can remember. In danish rodents are called gnavere. Gnave = to chew/gnaw and oh boy does she fit the bill.

Naughty Thea, looks like she's been working on that a while I love cheeky animals soo much Mine aren't huge chewers but they do have certain spots that they have chewed to oblivion. One of the shelves (made from thick cardboard tubes covered in hessian) is half gone but the others are unchewed which is weird. They've stripped down a couple of fruit tree branches but not touched the huts, toys, bendy bridges etc. I never see them chew either. Maggie doesn't chew at all I don't think, but she destroys all the wicker/seagrass/sisal toys so hopefully she's wearing her teeth down. But i bet if I used wood cages, they'd chew their way out overnight & harass the degus

Well at least she stopped before she gained freedom My two have managed to destroy the structural integrity of a hut at some point this weekend. Chewed the sides away and it must have collapsed either on or underneath them (my guess is underneath), fortunately no injuries though! Now looking at terracotta hides that I can use for them instead while I get around to making something a little sturdier...

My guys are trying to kill me darthchinchi !! Sir Ian Mckellen : "Quick, she's coming to clean us out, pretend to be asleep" Sir Patrick Stewart : "No, let's play dead & see if we can give her a heart attack" Nice view Sir Patrick..

ROFL!!! Big butt, tiny feet. I guess the myth about male foot size and other male parts must run the opposite way for chins?

Was stood there 5 mins, checked if he was breathing, he was. Grabbed my phone, took a pic, Minnie barked - still didn't move so I started thinking omg what if he's sick not asleep so I said something like "Oh No!" quite loudly & *then* he sat up! Looked like butter wouldn't melt. My heart was in my mouth by that point, he's all "Where's my food woman" Guessing he's so used to me pottering & Minnie barking they don't disturb him at all (Sir Ian either) which is nice. Never seen any of them sleep like that before tho, guessing it was the heat. I was just laughing at his nads lolol like a 5 year old

Peanut always sleeps like that it took me ages to get used to, even now he still occasionally worries me!

Thea has this sleeping position with her head down and her rump up. It looks so weird. And I hate it when they sleep oh their side too. Haha. I just can't get used to it

Is it anything like this darthchinchi? Scared me to death the first time I saw Benji flopped on his side though. Thought he'd overheated or something! They like to use the same house as Sir Ian is randomname, but at the moment Benj will sit at the back while Giz has his front legs on the floor of the cage and just his bum in the hide, despite them both being able to fit! oh and do you know that hay rack we were talking about? The bars have officially bitten the dust after only being in for a week money well spent!

Peanut gave me a shock this morning! Woke up and saw a chinchilla-sized lump next to the wheel - first thing that came to mind was heat stroke - he’s fine just experimenting sleeping on the floor with no substrate (yesterday I decided to test out potty training).

omg natnat899, you must have had a heart dropping moment when you saw him! Our Dame Maggie Smith has taken to sleeping next to her wheel too, I thought she'd escaped until I found her snoozing. Blimming chins, trying to give us all heart attacks - I wonder if they've been plotting together to kill us all off?! If so, Darth's in trouble, she's got 10!

She's not going out trough the hole, but guess who is tucking into the wall behind the cage... I don't know what to do about her 😂
