What is the best height for an adult water bottle. My degus come at the bottles in the oddest way, I've tried different bottles at different heights but they still look so awkward when they drink. I don't know if it's me and the height of the bottles or just another degu weirdness.

Probably degu weirdness to be honest.
I've tried different heights with Bumblebee's bottle, but he won't drink unless he can squat underneath and drink sideways. Dixie likes to almost lie under his with his head slightly back. They both look really uncomfortable but won't have it any other way.

Thank you, that helps a lot Delilah will go to her bottle, turn around and bend back. She's my oddest one. Pippa, when she is playing in the tubes, comes to a turn, puts her front paws over her head and does a roll. The Boyz (still have not named them) are pretty normal, just major clowns, loving and wanting get as close to the females as allowed.

Mine have all drunk in this sort of reverse fashion. I've put a little bowl upside down infront of the water bottle for Alice to lean her elderly legs on while she drinks at the moment.
I haven't tried it, but I suspect that the bottle needs to be really high for them to drink forwards.

Mine tend to be so that they stand on their hind legs to reach the bottle otherwise they twist their necks in an awfully uncomfortable-looking position. So it's usually about 4 inches above the bottom of the cage.

One group likes to stand on hind legs and reach up to the bottle to drink, and the other in any random position. I even witnessed one of those flat on his back drinking before. I guess, as long as it's not inaccessible, degus are smart enough to figure out how to approach the task!

We keep ours high, so they are standing against the bars a bit, otherwise they were so bent and contorted it looked painful.

I always had our bottles positioned in that manner as well, Winic.

So interesting thing. I have 2 in my cage one at a decent height at the top of the cage. One I originally put in temporarily when they first moved in to their new home us much lower on the middle floor. This the one that always gets drunk first so i presumed they like it low. I swapped the bottles last week as the top one us a bigger bottle. Hotter weather I thought put the bigger one where they drink more.. no now they use the top one. It's the actual bottle not the height??? Defo little weirdos as long as they are happy meh
