I have a tank for the girls' habitat, and i was wondering what everyone uses for digging? I saw that you cant just use sand, or else the tunnels wont stay put. What mixtures would you recommend?

I don't think anyone has solved this. I wanted to keep it completely dry to avoid any risk of mould so I've tried straw, paper bedding, hay, shavings etc in various combinations. In the end my lot weren't too fussed about actually digging once they had created a nest, so I adapted the space by putting a low headroom area (which they love in a nest). You can also use branches and tubes to try to support/ encourage digging routes, apparently in the wild they tend to dig amongst tree roots for support. I think if you want self supporting digging media you could look at things like straw and coir soil substitute type things. Let us know how it goes!

I've tried mixes involving shavings, straw, hemp, and even feathers!
At the moment, I'm using giant shavings as substrate (sold in 20kg bales from tack shops), and I filled the burrows with just those, with some sections of cardboard tube. They seem to love it (Spud is always digging). I'm not concerned about tunnel collapse/suffocation because the flakes are so big, there's always breathing space.
