Recently, one of our degus has died. this morining, in fact. She was 2 years old, and appeared t be in good health, as her theeth were still orange, ect, ect. The other looks fine too. Obviously, Getting the degu left(brain, a male) a new compainion is a must. He, acording to the pet shop, it only 2 years also. So, What's the best age for intorducing, or does it not matter? how long do you keep them seperated, and, i would greatly appreciate any tips from people experienced in this subject.

introductions will probably go easier if you get a younger degu, perhaps even one that hasn't sexually matured yet. younger, immature degus don't fight as much for dominance (at least not with older degus). separation time really just depends on the degus... some bond after a few days, others take several months. just put the cages next to each other and see how they respond. you'll be able to tell when they're ready for face-to-face meetings and if they're getting along well enough to room together after that.
