white vinegar for pee marks - let some soak in for 10mins, use a scrubby sponge to scrape the bits off. Repeat if necessary. Rust is damage - use sandpaper to get the bits off, then you could use metal paint (but make sure it's safe for animals, maybe email/tweet the manufacturer to ask before you buy) Personally I'd not bother, just get the flaky bits off.

I always used a solution of vinegar and water. Because our cage was so large, and there were two of them to clean, I'd put a cup into a gallon pail and use that. So, about a ratio of 3 cups water to 1 cup vinegar.

It used to be available in B&Q and B&M Bargains, maybe even Wilkinsons, I think. There are a couple of other makes that may be OK if you can find a child safe product.

Just as a note if you get the aerosol plastikote: make sure you wear a mask and do it in a well ventilated area (preferably outdoors) and away from any animals as inhaling it won't be good for yours or their lungs!
