The doors for the habitat. The first 3 levels will have doors that pull up, and the last level is all tank, for their burrowing. Partner in the photo trying to perfect the doors lol.

Here is an update on the habitat. We are starting the shelves, doors, and stairs. Water hole will be last. Looking for material for their burrow tank and thick branches to attach, but so far, im happy with how its turning out.

The little squares you see below the first level will be removed at the end. We could not find small enough screws to place the metal bar in, so my partner is going to shorten them tomorrow with a dremel.

Looking good! One thing I'd recommend is somehow protecting that join down the middle of the cage... That'll be like waving a red flag to a bull with degus

We are going to line everything inside with metal so that the girls are not able to chew threw. I have been bugging my partner about it since day one of building the frame lol.

Don't forget to line the floors too with something like lino - wee-soaked wood is sooooooooooo much fun! Oh yes! Nothing like sticky wee wood to really make you enjoy having degus, lol. Edit: as an aside, what's good to stick the lino down with?

Edit: as an aside, what's good to stick the lino down with? I'd go with the self-adhesive tiles. Personally, I've used sticky-backed plastic

UPDATE!!!! We are SO close to being finish. I honestly am getting super impatient about, but my partner wants to make sure it all comes out fine, and considering how much of a perfectionist I am, he is telling me to try and be patient. I've included photos of what has been done so far. First two photos: the doors have been installed! Yay! We are are in need metal brackets and metal covers for the bars you see down the middle. To keep the doors close, we are using magnetic catches with strikes (what a lot of cabinets have). Photos 3 and 4 are the water holes. The wooden one is the one we are going to end up using as it's longer, so the girls dont fight over drinking. I am going to use rocks, metal, and pond liner to cover in the inside and outside of the water hole. A pipe on each side will have the water circle out back to a container that will be attached on the outside. There will be a waterfall spout on top of the entire thing, with a bottle on the side to keep the water level. Covering the pipes and surrounding the waterfall pipe will be smaller rocks casted on. The rocky bowl that you see after the wooden one, was going to be the original water hole, but i feel it is too small for 4 girls. Ill keep it on the side for now. The last photo is where the girls' sand bath area. Plenty of room for them to roll around! Ahhh! I have been getting emotional about this, as i have been under so much stress, having a hard time accepting some changes, and being this close to done...I cant wait til the girls are in here. 😍
