Hello,
Admittedly I am the one who cut the hole in the cage to attach two cages together... so it's the metal bottom of a Liberta Explorer 2nd edition and I would like to put the cage back on its stand, trouble is once raised the cutout will be exposed so I need some ideas on how to patch it up, I thought about mesh on the outside but don't know how I'd attach mesh to metal, I'd just worry something blocking the hole just from inside the cage could easily be chewed or moved, any ideas?
Thankyou Signed, Your village idiot x

ROFL!! A large ceramic tile with a heavy flat rock . . . or just the heavy flat rock . . . would do. Or you could make a wooden tray to fit and protect the edges with metal screw on strips so it doesn't get chewed to bits.

Try a glass chopping board from the pound shop, I was relying on these when I had plastic shelving.

I used adhesive vinyl floor tiles on mine for the exact same reason once, as long as the edges are tight and no gaps, mine never chewed them as there wasn't a raised edge. Just stick the first tile directly over the hole and then fit the others around it, they are very easy to stick. The textured tiles were also good at keeping the nails a nice length.

thanks for suggestions! I will try the glass chopping board trick first, I'm just worried as this is the goo that got free during the car ride home so being extra cautious

You could buy a piece of sheet metal and screw or bolt it on and then you know it is fixed and permanent. You can buy pieces of aluminium or stainless steel on ebay in small sizes. Attach with really small nuts and bolts or with self tapping screws if the metal is thick enough.

Most DIY stores stock the plate metal to bolt on. You may forget the sharp points if you use self tapping screws, so I'd be tempted to drill first, then secure with machine bolts and locking nuts.
Alternatively, keep the access hole and use the stand to create another level!

If I need to block the central hole in mine, the one that goes down to the next level (sometimes they need to be contained!) I use a marble chopping board. It's heavy enough that they can't use it, can be moved out the way if I need to, and keeps their claws down a little.
As bouncy said, you may want to extend down into they stand.

Yes I definitely could extend, I just suck at DIY REALLY bad but if I get it down the first time I can repeat on the other cage too, I'd love them to have the stand area as a big digging area, I could do the top rim in mesh for ventilation and the rest with perspex maybe, the trouble is Dave is a real chewer but I could always line it with mesh on the inside to stop that

Think practically - if you connect perspex sides to the outside of the frame, Dave's teeth won't stand a chance lol

Sorry I left for so long... I am now attempting the extension but first on Toast and Bobby's cage as they are not a reckless as Dave and Flash.
Not sure if I ever introduced Toast...

Hello again! I don't think you did introduce Toast. You know that means we need photos!

I got the guys at my work to cut me a piece of granite with polished edges, I guess just like a granite chopping board and it sits over the hole and they have no chance of moving it

Yeah I hope not >.< They have smaller pieces of quartz samples in the cage for whenever they need to cool down. Toast is always on them, i think she loves the texture
