I have the critical care for Pika. She’s very up and down. ☹️ This is very common with chinchillas. It can take a very long time for them to get better.

How is she doing now?

To be honest it is hard to tell, she is pooping and eating but not eating much really. She is still drooling, eyes are still weeping and the vet trip was not much of a help. I think the spur was a side issue to the main issue of the tooth roots. The plan is let her recover and then take her to a different vet for an x-ray. I look at her face and I feel sad. why do they have to get sick?

I don't know, my degu has cancer, so I understand how sad it is Can you make a start investigating alternative vets, if you think that's what you need to do to get the eyes taken seriously? If she is stable but in distress, I would let the new vet know when she had the last sedation and let them decide if it's OK.

Degu are so cute, I had four brothers at one time. They all had dental issues and was very sad to deal with. I have never had anymore after that. Sorry about your degu being sick.
I have sourced a specialist vet already, it is a bit of a drive but is fine. My friend has taken her reptiles there and said they are really good.
My plan was to give her a week and book her in then. I want her to be stronger. She has pain relief at the moment but when I start to run out hopefully she will get more help.
This is my theory at the moment x

Ok. So some sad news. My other chinchilla Nibby who was 17, had to be put to sleep today. She was in a lot of pain and it was clearly the right thing to do for her.
Regarding my little Pika, I have spoken to my vet and she said that because she is still drooling she is in pain. The kindest thing is to let her go. So she is going in on Monday just to double check. I have the weekend with her, she has plenty of pain relief.
This will leave me with one chinchilla. My little Ozzy. I don’t think I will get anymore - you can’t replace them. It just isn’t possible.

Pika is gone. She had lost a lot of weight and the vet said she was in a lot of pain.
R.I.P.

I am going to concentrate on Ozzy. He has nobody to talk to anymore. I think I will do up his cage, new house, new shelves and ledges. I will have a John Hopewell cage extension for sale if anyone needs one. 🙁

No Ozzy can’t have it. Unless I make a hole in the ceiling to make it fit on top of his cage!
