I'm glad you had such a good experience this time! Perhaps it's worth suggesting to the practice that, going forward, someone should review cases that rookies have seen themselves. This would help with ongoing staff development, and help keep clients, who would otherwise lose confidence in the practice and go elsewhere

The other guys know more about wound care than me, but looking at the pic I might be tempted to leave the smaller wound on the left (as we look), but keep the bigger one open and keep squeezing that one as it looks like it is still a bit swollen under the skin on that side.

I'm not sure what to advise. I do think it is looking SOOO MUCH better though!! The inflammation is definitely much improved, and getting that under control makes it much more successful in dealing with the infection.
So . . . twice a day is less than what you were doing? I think I would be tempted to keep going strong until you have a couple of days in a row with no puss. Then I would cut back at that point. In my mind, it is more important to ensure that there is no puss forming within than it is to allow for the openings to close.

Yep, I'd agree with DC. If you still get pus then there's still some infection there so it's best to keep draining it. Once a day should probably be enough though!

Is he at 2 or 3 weeks tomorrow? Either way, I should think if he is moving and acting normally then he should be well on the way to healing inside and not likely to rupture anything now, so I don't see why he can't have his normal space back. Unless anyone else thinks the infection might have slowed the healing inside?
if he is desperate for a bath, I suppose you could let him have a bath just before you bathe the wound and just make sure it all gets a rinse with antiseptic. I wouldn't give him unlimited bath access yet.

Heck no to the bath until he's no longer "inappropriate word" and has scabbed over! If the sand gets into the wound, it will hurt a lot, hurt more to clean out, and be impossible to clean out (hands up who goes to the beach, showers afterwards and still finds sand everywhere for weeks?)
But if his normal space can be kept reasonably clean (doesn't have to be sterile, just not manky) he could go back into his usual place.

Fine. Until he's no longer full of pus.
Or until he's no longer a cat.
Whichever happens first.

You'll wake up one morning in less than a month and Tibbs will be all healed up and romancing with Sandy and everything will be worth it and wonderful.
How do you feel the baytril is working? You could always try another antibiotic or get a culture done and then you know you have the right antibiotic. I think with the squeezing and rinsing and antibiotic I would probably be hoping for more progress by now, I think it's worth speaking to the vet about the antibiotic.

Lmao!
The irony is that I find Owen Wilson really annoying and irritating. Probably exactly how Tibbs and you have been feeling throughout this entire process!
