So Paddy is here! He STIIIIINKS!!! I was a bit concerned when I first saw him, the carrier is a breeder show cage thing, like a small mesh cube and he was just doing circles in it, looking upwards. Sat him on the kitchen side whilst I filled his bowl and he did a HUGE wee on the kitchen side. Lovely lol. Hello to you too. Brought him through and opened the door to Alfie and let Alfie sniff him.. Paddy wasn’t at all interested lol, just kept looking around, Alfie was very keen to sniff him, no aggressive noises or anything but not sure what Alfie thought really. Closed Alfie’s door then let Paddy out into my lap, he let me pick him up, he’s a perfect size to put your hand round his middle and hold him that way, no claws to scratch at you either! He seemed okay, not super scared. He’s small lol didn’t look it in the photos but Alfie now looks like a big grey giant! Put him in the top half of the cage, his half until the enclosure is built. The circling and looking up stopped and he went straight for his sand bath, wasn’t a very elegant roller lol! Had many baths. He’s not quite figured out his bed is on the top level. He’s tucked straight into his pellets (the ones he came with) and some hay so that’s good. Left him to eat. The room is very noisy with the sound of all the tic-tac wheels and pinky bar twanging and some rattling sounds. Think it spooked him a bit. Gonna leave him to settle in overnight. His poops though are DOUBLE the size of Alfie’s. They’re the same size as degu poops whereas Alfie’s are much smaller. Alfie’s don’t look unhealthy, they’re just super small, but firm and “normal” looking and all look the same. Maybe the diet difference? Alfie is fed the same as the degus. He’s some pics of the stinky lad! His head tilt isn’t AS extreme or noticeable as I thought it would be.

Welcome home, Paddy! He's not just like a fluffy cloud, he's a cumulus cloud! He does look tiny even to my untrained eye.

he's sooo gorgeous! It's not so much a head tilt as a quizzical expression I'm so glad the brief intros went so calmly, bodes well for the future. I know what you mean about stinky - is it like the worst dirty cage you've ever smelled times a thousand?! That's what BB smelled like, it went within a couple of days though. Least he's not crusty & yellow lolol. You can add a tiny teaspoon of corn starch to the sand bath which will absorb smells but it's not really necessary. Sounds like he's not too freaked out if he's eating & exploring, I'm sure he'll get used to everything really quickly. Alfie will probably tell him what a great owner you are when they're chatting all night If you can be bothered it'd be good to see a pic with Alfie & Paddy's poops next to a degus for size comparison. His poops don't look that big from the photo above. I might do a chin/degu/guinea pig comparison pic - the g.pigs are huuuuge compared to the others.. in fact I could post a pic of them & see if any one believes a degu did it.. lol. They're nearly as big as a degu head! I do like white chins, i adore my boys so i adore all white ones. If my two are a same sex couple, Paddy would be the kid they adopted!! LOL. What's your plans for the next few weeks? Are you going to continue with introductions? If they get along will they share the cage until the new thingy is built, or will you wait for neutral territory? Very excited for you, he's a darling

moletteuk isn’t it just haha!! He’s funny! randomname he’s much cuter than I was expecting lol! I have no clue how to go about intros I’m so scared lol! Alfie fur slips at the drop of a hat 😩 Yeah!! Smelt like a dead body lmao The poops you can see are Alfie’s ones that I didn’t manage to hoover up. I’ll go grab some poops now lol and take a photo. Awww! Paddy would love your two as adopted parents lol! I can try introductions over the next few weeks, the quicker I can get them together the happier we will all be. Alfie is LIVID half the cage has vanished from his bouncing realm lol!

Alfie's poops look like my guys' ones, similar length to a degus but not as fat. What the flip has Paddy been eating?! Raisins maybe? Or a whole bowl of cheerios?! Is there white bits in Paddy's poo or is that just the 'photo?
Must admit, I find introductions hard, especially with little ones. Rabbits aren't so bad as they're big enough to separate with a piece of card or wood, but I try to avoid doing it with degus/chins 'cos I'm too squeamish. Guinea pigs do that ball of death thing as well - can you imagine tiny, hairy hippos fighting?!
I think if you've braved degu intros, chins will be a piece of cake for you. I am convinced degus are the hardest critters to bond out of all of them. The hair will get everywhere though but I doubt Alfie will slip a lot as Paddy won't be able to corner him or grab him & hold him.
When I cleaned today, I took the light shade down - absolutely full of fluff! No idea how it gets up there but it does. Not even proper fur, just wispy fluff that floats.. wish they'd let me use the furminator brush on them but no chance.

Nah not white just bits of sand lol did a fair bit of fishing around for them lol! He’d tipped his litter tray over. Need to get him a metal baking tray like Alfie. Wasn’t prepared lol, tried to do it cheaply as I have no money lol evidentially not gonna work. When I went in to get the poops he was proper scared... opened the cage door to offer him a treat, wouldn’t leave the corner. So definitely gonna leave him to settle and have a nap if he ever finds his bed lol. I’ll try to get him over to my nuggets ASAP too. Degus are okay you can grab em lol I’m scared to even hold Alfie 😩 touch him and poof hair falls out lol! Do I go about intros in the same way as degus?

Congratulations, he looks cute and a bit of sand did wonders on his fur, judging on the pictures. Just let him keep it in with him, and he'll be nice and flyffy in a couple of days to a week Poop looks normal. It looks a bit on the wet side and this is most likely due to him being stressed because of the new home. Funny thing, when I feed fresh to my chinnies their poops look like the ones from your degus. If he's only used to pellets and hay you need to use 1-2 weeks to get him used to the ones you have, or you will upset his tummy.

I leave sand in with them anyway, Alfie has permanent sand So is Alfie’s poop too small, he’s fed exactly the same as the degus so.. unlimited hay and unlimited forage, nuggets and seeds. Yeah his poops are a bit squishy (paddy’s). I’ll transition him slowly.

When I first got Tibbs his poops were like Alfie’s now, then looked like normal goo poop once he adjusted to new diet. I think Padrums poops will change too once he’s use to his new diet 💩

They look fine to me. If in doubt when they look like that, offer a couple of rasins (didn't random mention those as well).

hahaha we all know that we must feed a diet of 100% raisins & cheerios, nothing else. LOL. Nah but one won't do any harm Our Dave came with a 1 a day dried apricot habit (a whole one!) which I half blame for his horrible dental issues. Just pellets & fruit, no hay no roughage, nothing. Poor lad I miss Wavy Davy.

He’s found the top level. Why are his ears down like this? I’ve never seen it before? Is he hot? We’ve opened the window. Alfie is being a lot more friendly than usual lol. He likes to chew my nail!
