You will get a much better idea when you meet the degus and see the cage in front of you, and you will find it much easier to make choices once you have lived with them for a couple of weeks or months. By all means make sure they will be safe from the cats from the start, but it's probably best to wait a couple of weeks before you spend too much money, you might decide you want a completely different cage. Cage DIY is simpler than you might think - it doesn't need to look pretty, it just has to be strong! So exciting getting your first degus

I've been spending the last few days going through lots of threads on here and saving links for different suggested toys/food/bedding - I have a feeling I'm going to get myself a bit confused with all the information available!! But it's amazing to have and read through, at the start I'll have all the regular food and bedding etc that the girls currently use so I will at least start with the basics and I can build it from there. It is very exciting, I have spent a long time starting at degus on every trip to PAH!! I would take a photo on every visit to send to my partner as my way of convincing him they are super cute and we should get them haha, persistence always wins

If you get in a muddle over another, just ask Have you checked local rescues and rehoming sites to get some from, rather than PAH?

These two girls are coming from a couple who are expecting a baby and having to move but they can't take them with them, that's why we'll start out with having all the basics as they will be giving us their cage, toys, food etc

That video of Leo and Garf makes me want to try and train my 5 lunatics (3 goos and 2 cats) into free time together 😩
