Not sure about the door knocker, maybe you could get a doorbell with a quiet setting, but my goos hate our doorbell, so you might solve one problem but create 6 others. I think it's virtually impossible to get people to change their knocking habits. I think Misty will get used to it. Maybe you could do positive reinforcement and training - get your boys to knock fairly quietly and you give Misty treats - continue until he makes the connection and then make it louder. ??
Maybe Misty would benefit from a second name that doesn't sound like Minnie? Or think of a different version of Misty that sound's different, like Foggy, but nicer lol!

How about a sign that says, "Knock softly, please, new baby sleeping"?

because it's the summer holidays & I'll never be rid of them! Plus my weird brain sees any one in my house as a threat now, stupid anxiety is getting worse. Imagine having a panic attack 'cos a couple of kids came in? Lol. I do wave & smile though, am not a monster. Hopefully, they see the big cages & me cleaning all the time & are educated that way. I think this is why we had several hamsters & mice dumped on us a few years ago. I think a kid/parent in the street has seen the cages & thought I'd appreciate a half dead hamster in a tiny dirty cage that they're sick of. Nope, I sure didn't want that £180 vet's bill or to pay £150 for a decent cage. Urgh people.

Oh random when you chase and grab one of your two legged sprogs, can you get them to take some pics of Misty and email them to you 😬 My youngest refuses to have a mobile - he says it's just a way for me to nag him from a distance. He is 100% correct. My eldest might do it tomorrow, I'll ask. I'll get him to get some of them all if he can, could do with some recent ones.

How about a sign that says, "Knock softly, please, new baby sleeping"? I tried one of them when my kids were babies, seemed to work with friends/family but not with deliveries or officials. The main problem is that I do all my shopping online, so we get deliveries pretty much every day, sometimes multiple. They all bang on the door like the Police executing a search warrant! I know they want to make sure I hear, but it's obviously way beyond a normal knock. There is one driver I have gotten on first name terms with, he knocks quietly, but the rest are idiots. Can't find much online except one that says shift worker, do not knock (but I want my deliveries) I find most delivery drivers ignore bells & knockers & just hit the door with a fist like a Gorilla beats his chest. Maybe I should just pad the door?

Padding the door could work. Make the sign a BIG paper sign, and tape it up right where your typical person would bang, so they have to bang on the sign. Put up two or three if needed, for coverage.
Our various delivery men started dumping things in front of the garage, instead of coming 25 feet to the left and putting it on the front porch. lazy. So, I printed, in bolded arial black, a sign that says "ALL PACKAGES TO THE FRONT DOOR, PLEASE" in huge letters, with "homeowner is disabled, please help us with this" in smaller letters below. Then I sealed it in a plastic cover, and it hangs on the handle of the garage door, right where they'd dump things. Haven't had a package left there since.
How about "KNOCK SOFTLY, FRIGHTENED CHINCHILLA INSIDE"? Might catch their attention because it's such a weird thing to see?

Maybe remove any knockers and wet your door and have a sign saying "wet paint" 😂

Just ordered Misty an Aventura & some bits for it (plenty of hammocks for safety) Will be a slow transfer for her but i'll let you know how it goes. I'm convinced she'll be happier with more room & things to do. I've noticed her behaviour is very limited compared to other chins, but that could be because she's still settling in. Am going to order her a tictac 16" wheel in a minute. She loves her wheel, but it's pretty noisy (am used to never hearing them) Just need to find a couple of nest boxes as the ones I've been using emily! tells me are plywood Does anyone know of any solid wood ones out there?

I know plywood is not ideal. I've been using plywood for shelves in one of my cages, for years, no issue at all. I am slowy changing to other types of wood. What I'm saying is, I wouldn't worry too much about the plywood. Just change when ever you find an alternative you like

I'm not really worried about the ones the degus & boy chins already have, they don't really chew them as they have proper barky wood toys to chew which they prefer. When I replace them I'll get solid wood. I will have to get Misty a couple, so I'll just get solid wood to start with. I think she'll be getting access to her new cage by the weekend, so I'll buy a cheap one for now & hang on 'til Em gets me one sorted. Have just ordered Misty a 16" pink tictac wheel (was in the reduced section) so am sure she'll love that. Her wheels not quite that big so it'll be nice for her to run with more space. Her hammocks & bed are pink/white too. Like a proper girly girl (I have no idea why, I am not usually into doing that) Spent £220+ in less than half an hour this is why i'm always skint.

Random, clearly Misty has impressed you as a very special girlie girl chin.
Some animals seem to do that. Our kitty is very feminine, and everyone that meets her comments on it. With our degus, we had one female we called Apricot, and she was more of an athletic type, didn't come across girlie. Then there was Pumpkin. Pumpkin was soft and smooshie and cuddly, like a chubby, jolly, loving grandma. Very much a personality thing!
