Just had a delivery of 6 different hays, flexboise & Auboise, chin/degu/g.pig/rabbit nuggets & some sand so I'm ready to go! I can't do any more research or ask any more questions. All I can do is take it day by day & see what's what when I meet her. No one can accuse me of being under prepared All ready & counting down 'til Friday

haha it's not just me being lazy then @gizmosisi? Peruvians are a totally different kettle of fish to standards or Abyssinians aren't they? Had plenty of piggies here, but was a whole new thing with these girls. Never had to bath a piggy before, was terrifying.. 'til i'd done it! It didn't go too badly really. Must admit, the haircut I gave them would probably get me shot at a breeder/show meet, seemed such a shame to butcher all that lovely hair, but keeping clean & cool is the priority. Will I get better do you think? I really hope I do, they look like in the 80's when mum's used to cut their kids hair using a bowl as a guide! You know, the ones that would get picked on in school the next day!

Ohh I keep 3 alpacas and one normal type piggy, The alpacas need trimming, grooming, bathing.. I love it! but it takes ages! I was told they grow and inch a month (Which seems very accurate) So this summer its been regular trims in this heat! It often seems like a butchering but that's the way to do it! :') I think the anxiety of it all will settle down, anxiety has a way of trying to talk yourself out of doing things! I think washing a chinchilla (with water) was the scariest thing i have ever had to do. -actually the blind girl I took in. She was covering in urine and stank. I was unable to wash the other 2 females due to being pregnant when I palpitated. but did also wash the father with water. hopefully i will never have to do that again! D: ONce you do it, you will do just fine! and she will be fine with you and adjust.

Misty is here & I'm in looove She's beautiful. Seems fit & healthy aside from her fur looking rough. She's been on the wheel & eating, no hint at any problems. Her ears are like radar dishes, but her eyes don't really look at you. Have to assume there's nothing there, but she's getting around great, you wouldn't know. She's settling in ok, is a bit weirded out by our voices, but has accepted some hay from me already. Will leave her alone to settle for the next few days & report back. having met her, I'm 100% confidant now. I can work with her, it'll be an honour. darthchinchi do you have any tips about helping her coat condition? I might get some blue cloud dust to add to her bath, used to work wonder for my Dave when we had him.

If some of the fur is sticking out, try pulling at it. Normally it's quite easy to get it out. Other than that, just give it time.

Misty is doing well. She seems to be behaving totally normally. Is a little skittish around me & my boys (human ones) she freezes & her cute little ears twitch like crazy, but she's not running or hiding. She's scared I guess, but not terrified. That's way more than I expected overnight. She's a lovely brown colour, like a tiny baby bear. Can't wait to be able to stroke her Edit: new bed & hammock just arrived, only ordered yesterday. How do I go about cleaning her out later? Should I leave her in & work around her? Or take her out? Might be awkward to handle her, would rather she decided herself to move away than me pick her up so soon. ruthy1994 how do you clean her out usually? Also does she have her bath on the cage or outside?

Also does she have her bath on the cage or outside? I usually clean her out whilst she's in the cage. I sweep the shelves and then empty out the bottom tray and clean that out. She's usually pretty chilled about having your hands in the cage so long as you let her know you're there first She will love her new hammock and bed! Can you post a photo of her in them? I usually put the sand bath at the bottom of the cage but she does have it during out of cage time too. So whatever's easiest I guess! Glad to hear that she's settling in so well

Thanks ruthy1994 that makes life easier. I'll give her a clean, put her new bed in (it's pretty much the same as the one she's got) & get some 'photos later today. Does she have a favourite treat I can bribe her with?

Just fed everyone. Am pleased to report Misty has eaten a normal amount of nuggets & some redigrass since yesterday. Is also a normal amount of water gone. Looks like she's doing fine there. She didn't eat any of the Ings hay, but that's ok it's really coarse & she may not be used to it. Have just given her a little green oat hay (as I'm not sure if she's had it before) & she wolfed that down. I put 1 dried dandelion leaf in too, & she went straight for that. Looks like she'll eat dried forage ok, but am going to go exceedingly slowly. She doesn't seem to have any mechanical issues with eating, dental issues are not on my list of concerns any more She was a little scared but let me put her food in the cage. She even sniffed my hand, but she got scared - I think she was expecting Ruthy1994, but got stinky me instead. It's pretty cool she's comfortable to that extent though. I'll probably ruin her trust when i clean her out in a bit, but it's got to be done. She's got her sand bath in at the mo, she was super excited to go in it. Am going to have to order more sand soon at this rate. Only 2 problems I need to solve today - 1 is that my front room (the animal room) has my front door in it. All my lot are used to the noise when people knock on, but obviously it's scaring Misty. How can I make people knock quieter?! I disabled the knocker, but delivery drivers just hammer on the door. Should I put up a sign? Will that just make the local kids knock & run away? They already congregate outside the window when the blind is open (I particularly like the 5 year old in year round nappies & wellies who can't seem to work out what the chinchillas are... you've heard nowt 'til you've heard a Geordie sounding kid in a nappy & wellies shouting "What the F^*K is that?! Maaaaaaaaa-aaaaaaam, what's that ^*£!er in that cage doin'?" & the Mam reply "Kyle get here & stop looking at the rats ya little s&%t!!") 2 is that Minnie the dog thinks I am talking to her when I say Misty & it's not helping me gain Misty's trust. Every time I talk to Misty, Minnie comes in & wants a cuddle. Then I feel bad & have to go round all the animals & cuddle them so no one feels left out. Kids say they don't feel left out, no need for cuddles, but I disagree. If it involves a chase that's fine by me, house ain't that big

That's great! Alfie loves green oat hay too, and Dandelion root. I've been giving Alfie what I give the degus but in a lot smaller amounts. Eats it all first before anything else.
I'm glad she has no issues with eating, that's a big issue off your mind. Lol! She was like "Ruth, you smell WEIRD today!" 😂 and yay she likes her bath!
Maybe she will get used to the knock? You could try the sign and if it doesn't work then no love lost. You tried. LOL I love the mental image of the little kid 😂 made me giggle.
They do feel left out lol, I have to fuss everyone and give attention to everyone or I feel so guilty lol! Maybe Misty needs a last name?

She really likes those rosewood little hearts treats so may be worth getting some of those for her as a bribe Glad she's happily eating her hay and using her sandbath. Sounds like she's settling in great!
