I've been scouring the internet for good deals on hay. Have found a 15kg bag of meadow hay that's pretty good, but am now looking for something similar in timothy. I know timothy will be more expensive than meadow, so I don't mind paying a bit more, but the only bulk timothy I can find is around £70 (Oxbox, surprise, surprise!) Where do you all get your hay from? Does any one buy in bulk like me? I can't get to local farm shops so I need somewhere that does delivery (also not at a stupid price) Any one got any ideas?

For some reason I can't get onto their site at the moment (hope they haven't shut down) but old hay for pets (now hay-and-straw) used to do timothy in bigger bales

I used to use Hay for Pets, but it was their meadow and Ings hay that my lot prefered, I wasn't as impressed with the timothy and rye grass one. They do sample packs if you want to try it. The other online hay supplier that I think lots of rabbit and guinea pig people use is Dustfreehay.co.uk but their timothy hay is imported so is expensive.

I love that their catalogue consists of two items, both the same item but different sizes. I'm kinda left thinking it's not a catalogue if it's only got two items in

ROFL! It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't calling it a catalogue! Did you see there was an option for oat grass on the right, but it's sold out! The stock taking and accounts must be a nightmare

Thanks everyone for your replies. Really good of you to take time to comment. I've sent for a sample pack of the 3 types of hay from hay-&-straw. Dust free hay looks good, but even their cheapest hay is £14 for 2kg, seems super expensive. The timothy hay site looks much better value, at 10kg for £19.50. Might give them a go in future. I currently get this meadow hay - www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/horses/feed/hay_fibre/hay_fibre/496147 which is 15kg for £17.99. I know I can get hay bales for £5 - £10 at a farm shop, it's just so frustrating I can't get to any local ones & they don't deliver. I can only find £300 pallets available! I could probably get the hemp chips cheaper at a farm shop too.

That's a good brand, I sometimes buy it too DL21. I usually use a cheap meadow hay in the rabbit/guinea pig hutches as bedding & for nibbles & also have 3 or 4 'posh hays' like that one (or Oxbow or Excel) for feeding to the chins/degus & rabbits/guinea pigs as a forage mix (with other dried plants, fresh foods, seeds - whatever the animal needs) Posh hay is pretty easy to find in 500g, 1kg & 2kg sizes so am not too bothered that it's more expensive. I just need to find some cheap bedding/fodder hay in 15-20 kg sizes to make the posh stuff go further. But it still has to be fairly good feed value as the rabbits & guineas eat an absolute ton (I could easily use 5-10kg per week)

The stock taking and accounts must be a nightmare "Have we go our two pallets of 10kg?" "Check." "Are they in date?" "yep." "And the five hundred 20kg pallets?" "Uh, boss....?" "Yes?" "I can't see them anywhere." "What do you mean, you can't see them anywhere?" "I can't find them, boss." "Well, they must be around here somewhere! Get them found!" *minions all scurry round desperately searching for 500 pallets of 20kg timothy hay*

"Uh, guys... did anyone check under the tarp?"
"No, why?"
"There's a big box underneath it, covered in graffiti."
"Say anything interesting?"

"Emergency services, Police, Fire or Ambulance?"
"Um... Police?"
"Ok, what is the problem?"
"Some rabbits have stolen our timothy hay bales!"
"I'm sorry sir, could you repeat that please?"
"Some rabbits calling themselves the Watership Down Gang have snuck into our warehouse and stolen 500 20kg pallets of timothy hay."
"Ok sir, can you just confirm for me - you had five hundred pallets of hay, and you believe that a gang of rabbits has stolen it?"
"Yes! Send your best officers now!"
*quiet giggling can be heard over the phone from Dispatch's office*
"Sir, I'll send someone as soon as I can. Unfortunately I've just dispatched my last two officers for your area to investigate a missing gerbil. In the meantime, if you see anything suspicious or anything that concerns you, please call the non-emergency line. Thanks, goodbye now!"
*line cuts out*
"Uh, now what?"

....Ummm, I think I passed a field on my way here.....we could go watch it while we wait for it to grow??"
"Don't be stupid! That would be meadow grass! We can't sell meadow grass, it would mean altering the CATALOGUE!!!"

Sorry Random ^^ You might find an independant farmy pet food type supplier who delivers locally, there is one near me anyway, so they do exist.

#unexpected! lol Did not expect that particular comment journey - just goes to prove that strange minds think alike I guess... you're all nuttier than a Snickers bar (or a squirrel poop) Took my mind on an odd journey too - I am now pondering the irony of a pet food company employing methods to protect their mouse food in the factory from mice. So that they can sell it to other mice. After testing it's effects... on mice! & having written it down, I've overused the word mouse & now it no longer looks like a word. PPffttt. Brains. Am awaiting my samples, but if it's good, I may order a larger bundle from hay & straw. moletteuk what was their Ings hay like? I've never used/heard of it before. I read on a guinea pig website last night that it's generally well liked by them so might try it.

I know, aren't we getting terrible for wandering off on flights of fancy, there's barely a thread that stays completely sensible these days I know what you mean about words going weird on you, I'm not sure how to spell 'tomorrow' today, I want there to be more 'm's. The Ings hay was the one from that company that mine liked best, it just looked like normal nice hay, the ings (damp meadow) part was not obvious. I got most of my hay from them for probably a couple of years, but then I had a big batch that they just wouldn't touch at all, and a replacement batch of a couple of different of their hays, and they wouldn't touch any of it, so that was £30 down the pan and I've just been buying smaller batches here and there since then. Their timothey & rye was very stalky and coarse and quite brown, which I presume just means slower dried (?).

I'm usually the first one to derail a thread, so am not complaining. It's lovely how everyone gets on so well on here. Am glad I found some people with the same silliness as me, I feel less weird around you guys! Have just ordered a bale of Ings, had just seen a recent review saying it's good quality at the moment. Hope so, but seems they're good for replacing mouldy or spoiled stuff. So, I have about 5kg Redigrass, about 13kg meadow hay, 9.5 kg Ings hay, 4 kg Excel timothy hay & 3 small 500g bags of posh hay (mainly meadow with additives) in at the moment. Hopefully that's enough variety, especially when mixed with all the forages we have. Should keep the rabbits, guinea pigs, degus & chins happy.
