Thanks for the info. I don't know how it is in the UK, but nationally here it is a criminal act to even be in possession of marijuana. Criminally meaning you can get a long prison sentence for even having a small amount. In practicality that doesn't happen too much. It is a "schedule 1" drug here which is the highest level of regulation, right up there with heroin and meth. The DEA, which handles the prosecution of such crimes here, likes to take the "war on drugs" as far as it can. I know they have tried to get hemp included under their "schedule 1" regulatory banner about a decade ago. They technically failed at that.
However, that doesn't mean they still couldn't find a technicality to hit me with. Something about purchasing "across state lines" comes to mind. I won't drag you through a lesson in civics and law, but sometimes things that are legal "in Massachusetts" aren't legal if I purchase from Florida and have it shipped here. I wouldn't put it past the DEA to try and hit me with interstate drug trafficking charges for hemp bedding if they can.
The good thing for me is even though it is illegal nationally, it is legal in my state (don't ask how that works, it is way above my pay grade lawyer and politics wise). Assuming hemp wouldn't run afoul of any "amount limits" for possession, there is no problem with me having the stuff in my state (according to state law, but not national law...). One of the tricky things is that in my state I think I'm currently allowed to own pot, but it is still illegal to buy/sell pot. It will be legal soon to buy/sell, but the way the law is written they gave one timeline for possession and a longer timeline so they can properly regulate stores.
I'll email the company, their website seems to be very guarded in some ways. It also seems like they employ lots of lawyers. They probably know if I can get the stuff or not.
Edit: if I can get this stuff - people who use it, about how much do you use? This place sells 10L bags. Could you translate that into an area measurement? Like maybe liters per CARA?
For instance I know one 60L carefresh covers my cage of about 27,500 CARA
