It still looks a little different to how it should, but I'm going to give him a break from it for a day or two to see if it settles down on its own. Also because he's started peeing on my hand when I get hold of him (defence tactic?). Considering changing vets since she completely failed to find the cause of the issue.
He was rolling around on the lava ledge last night, obviously a bit desperate for a sand bath after all those gel applications. Should I give them their bath back or wait another day or two?

I must admit skardsen, when my boy had his prolapse I didn't know what it was and wasn't a member of this site so took him to westways. He was obviously in a lot of pain and had also been biting the skin on his belly which was bleeding and very sore. Saw a vet who give me cream to put on just like you to heal the skin but he didn't actually tell me he had a prolapse. I searched the internet and found out what it was so took him back to westways the next day to TELL THEM what it was. Other problems I've had, I have done research before I go up and again I tell them what I think it is and what they probably need so yes they aren't that great with Degu's. Pets@home in Kingston park have a vets there and with selling degu's they may have better knowledge and experience. May try them the next time I need it. I personally would let him have a bath as its important for his altogether hygiene. Another member may be better to advise but if he can clean the outer area himself he shouldn't have any problems. I would also bathe his area with salty warm water which will aid healing and keep the tip of his penis clean too. Have used a syringe or cotton bud to apply the salt water for wounds and it really helps.

Forgot to add, peeing on you is actually there way of letting you know they like you and your 'one of the pack'.....or he could have just needed a wee lol, its not a defence tactic as far as I know!

I would see how it looks in a couple of days and then decide whether it needs another vet visit. I agree the vet should have found the problem.
I'm not sure whether it would be best to leave it alone, continue with gel, or even push out again and rinse out with saline once more, does anyone else have a firm opinion? I would leave the sand out for another few days.

I think to push out, rinse, lightly dry, apply cream, and then leave it a day or so would be a good thing. By pushing it out you can have another look to see if there is any more redness, or if perhaps there is something more, however tiny, that is still causing irritation. (Like sand to an oyster, though I'm sure Frankie would rather forego the effort to produce a pearl!) If you want to give him access to the sand bath, do it before "the procedure."

Well I just checked him over now and it's almost back to normal. I'm going to wait and see how it is tomorrow before using anymore gel.

Well, now begins the process of trying to regain their trust. Neither of them will take treats from my hand anymore, so I can forget having them sit on my shoulders for a long while. Took ages to teach Frankie that it was safe to do that too.

It really shouldn't take as long as it did the first time. They will remember the good things and bounce back quickly!

It really shouldn't take as long as it did the first time. They will remember the good things and bounce back quickly! I can confirm that they're starting to sit on my shoulders for treats again. I was a little worried they'd never trust me again, as yesterday they still wouldn't go near me, but today was almost as if nothing had happened.

You know it's weird. I don't want to jynx it but... they seem to trust me more ever since. I can't explain it, but they don't run away from me when they're out anymore. Is it at all possible they understand? Frankie's the dominant one (no idea how but he is), so is it possible he's decreed that I'm a good guy?

They are very clever, I really think they do understand. But there's one thing I've learnt with my goo's. They seem to wake up in different moods. One day their all about greeting u and letting you give hugs and taking comfort in you, the next day they are adventurous/mischievous and maybe do things they aren't supposed to do but are happy to listen and be told NO and do those little excited happy hops they do, the next day they do naughty things but try and act like they are above u like 'tuffing' at you and trying to bite you, the next day they run scared of every little noise they hear and wont take any comforting words I say and just continue to screech, my girls have sad days when they sulk around and kind of cry and I cant do anything with them......I never know what I'm waking up to, they really are strange little things, clever but strange lol.
