Fingers crossed they call soon and you can go and pick him up. Those 6 weeks will fly by too, I assume he can still babysit the pups until you split the boys up and put them permanently with Dad?

Hope all goes well dops. Another member of this site 'hlou' had a very successful and trouble free castration not so long ago and he seemed to recover very quickly so they can be trouble free and your vet sounds like she knows what she's doing. Just seen your post on water for the pups. I just had a couple of water bottles like uve done and they didn't seem to have any problem finding and using them when the time is right. I feed mine the Degu supreme food and hay and they used to pick it up and run around with it but didn't eat it until they were weaned but very cute to watch them sniffing and burying food so think the interest in solids is there very quickly.

they called and it all went very well!! What a relief. The price includes a night in their hospital for observation and they said he was fussing over the incision a bit, so they gave him extra painkillers and even a tiny little buster collar! Thank you everyone, and yes am hoping it will fly past! Can't wait for his and Mowgli's reunion. And yes Bexi87, will be putting the males in with him in a couple of weeks so he at least will have their company!
I am relieved the surgery worked out, means he will soon be back to normal with his lovely grumpy wife :-) And then I can stop feeling so guilty seeing him all curled up alone on the floor nearest Mowglis cage.

i will take one today!
Bless him, he seems quite miserable with his cone, he keeps falling off things and bumping into stuff. But he is being very good with the painkillers and letting me syringe them into his mouth (with just a bit of a struggle).
Does anyone have any advice on what to do for him to make him happier? Any treats or maybe I should do the rice sock thing?

I just had an idea, and so I put Mowgli in Lemmi's cage and stayed there closely watching. And it was the cutest thing!! Mowgli isn't the most gentle of degus, but she ever so gently groomed him and warbled at him and he seemed so relaxed by her being there! I only left her in for a minute or two, but it really seemed to cheer him up! I thought as he is so miserable he won't be looking for any hanky panky, and as he has the cone on he cant groom himself at all and I have to keep him clear of the sandbath. I think this will be my Lemmi cheer up trick!

We call it the "Cone of Confusion", not the cone of shame. We figure, unless they're wearing it because of something stupid they did, there's no shame, but it certainly causes a lot of confusion in their attempts to carry on life.

I think we call it shame because of the possible ridicule from other animals. That’s so sweet dops! Is he even able to get into a hanky panky position with his cone?

cone of confusion is very correct, he has the most silly confused expression on his little face as he keeps being blocked by something! And not sure Bouncy, I was even covering Mowgli's rear end with a hand to make sure nothing slipped by me lol
But just now I was speaking to Lemmi through the cage bars, and put my finger in and for the first time ever he let me tickle his chin and armpit for ages and ages!! He must definitely be all itchy and frustrated he cant reach it, but I have never been able to do this to them before. I have tried many times lol, by just trying to tickle their armpits when theyre reaching for something and they turn around all outraged like umm excuse me??? I am glad he still trusts me after all thse vet visits and meds.

Sorry for yet another post about them, but today has been a very good day! its Sunday so I have had no work today and have spent the whole day with them. Lemmi is looking a lot more cheerful, even with his cone on, and very sweet to me. He slept for ages on my bare feet under the duvet, and then sat on my shoulder for a while. And he keeps letting me tickle his chin and armpit! He is eating lots as well, especially hay which I think might be good?
Hes now in his cage, and I opened Mowgli's one and when she climbed out all her pups followed! And whats nice is they can slip between the bars into Lemmis cage so they have all been exploring inside. Lemmi is lying in the center and they keep coming up and saying hello to him and grooming him. I even saw one come up and warble and groom him for ages, and then clamber inside his cone to curl around his neck like a furry scarf! Lemmi looked so happy, his eyes were almost closed and he looked so pleased. Its so nice to see him have some company and to see how much he loves them.
The pups are so well also! They are wolfing down their food as well as milk and they are so energetic. Right now they are exploring my room (all pup-proofed!) and have even discovered the sandbath and had a clumsy roll or two.
Am just very pleased they are all happy and Lemmi is recovering well from the surgery!

How cute does Lemmi look with his come I love the fact that he can spend time with the babies and mum whilst he is in isolation - it's just so lovely. Also well done to you, you've handled his surprise litter incredibly well and I can honestly say your goo's are lucky to have you

Oh how sweet is the cone?! It's adorable on him! Looks like he spent so e time wandering on your t-shirt and did some quality control he's an absolute sweetie! Could you put his hamster cage inside the big one, so the pups can visit whenever they want?

You are doing so well!! Thanks for the pictures, I have so enjoyed them! Are you placing the boys in new homes as well? Keeping just Lemi and Mowgli?
