Sorry couple more questions!
When the pups are born, and are say about 2 weeks old would it be okay if I introduced Lemmi to them? Without Lemmi being able to access Mowgli. Also, whenever I let them loose at the moment, Lemmi rushes into Mowglis cage and checks every corner, is that him checking for pups? He's being adorably flustered about the whole thing, making nests everwhere and checking constantly!

I would say you can introduce dad to pups anytime as long as he cant mate Mowgli. I know you cant know for sure but I personally think dad knows by smell that mam is carrying pups and he is looking to see if they have arrived. When Lula gave birth Joey was running around our living room at the time as they had free access, cage door was always open for them. When she gave birth he wasn't there but heard the noises and ran to investigate. He went in and was so gentle and loving to Lula and the first pup, it was like he knew who the pup was and it wasn't a surprise to him. Lula didn't mind at all that he was there. He didn't stay long and went to explore outside the cage but kept on coming back to greet the new arrivals (5 in total)and was just so happy (excited even) and loving towards them all. We didn't know about multiple pregnancies so that's why he was there at the time.

Okay, thank you! That would make sense as Lemmi is definitely running around flustering a lot. Sad about the multiple pregnancies, as Lemmi seems so interested and keen for it all. But I will let him have little meets with some pups, away from Mowgli! I'm sure he will like it, he is very gentle. It was very sweet, I always let them under the duvet and Mowgli always curls up on my feet, and then Lemmi hesitantly follows, but today Lemmi came by himself and curled up on my feet! It seems like not much but he's a judgy little degu and it was nice to see he is accepting. Especially in all these chaotic changes!
Joey sounds like a lovely little goo! It's nice how they tend to be good fathers.

Just be aware that female pups can conceive as early as six weeks of age, so be sure that Lemmi doesn't have access to any females beyond the 5 weeks age.

Sean (my male) only got introduced to the male pups when they were 6-8 weeks old and were put in to live with him. He didn't have any time alone with the female pups because I didn't want to take the risk of the female pups getting pregnant and I also thought that, if he didn't meet the female pups, he wouldn't miss them (because he had never been directly introduced to them).

Its lovely isn't it, imagining how many pups she has in there! Well, tonight was the night I guessed they would arrive but looks like their all staying put for the moment. I really hope you get to see the birth and have no little surprises when you wake up. I do think for such small animals and I don't have experience with other rodents giving birth but Degu's seem to be very good parents to their pups. Its weird because my first goo's are over 3 years now and Lula is afew month older and I look at the new pups and wish my first ones were that age again. Wish they had the life span of cats and dogs but I suppose we are lucky that they have a longer life span than most furries. Think by you seeing them moving tonight the arrival is very close

I want to see squirming belly shots!! LOL Goolover, I was thinking they must be imminent as well. Might be a good idea to put Lemi in the second cage tonight, otherwise you might find you are too late to prevent the taking of a second pregnancy.

no sign yet, but she can barely walk today she is so huge!! Lugging herself across the room. I will try get some photos and videos today, as my brother is visiting and my phone is broken at the moment.
And yes deguconvert, I'll let them have a last bit of playtime together today then separate for good I think. Much as I am excited about the pups, it would be nightmare if it happened again!

I totally get that, from experience I can tell you that the re-occurrence is a nightmare! They are still lovely and fun, but the stress of care and placement is HUGE!

nothing yet! just an even larger belly... I'm concerned shes going for the worlds largest degu litter, shes a huge mama Not a great photo but gives a view of how large she has got, she will let me gently feel her belly and its taut and full of babies. Lemmi still acting like the worlds first nervous dad, bless him Maybe tomorrow I'll wake up to a full cage!

Bless her, when other members ask if their goo is pregnant and we talk about bottom heavy and pear shaped, we should add this picture! When Lula was that size she loved back rubs and would lie as flat as she could whilst I made circles on her back with the back of my hand, must have felt nice as she would lie a good 5 minutes or so. The strain on their back must be quite bad with all that weight dropping downwards. Fingers crossed it wont be much longer
