Would think this would work very well, just to add, the first time Lula gave birth she was making aright fuss of the bed/nest area, adding bits to it and rearranging it and being just very unsettled so if you are in same room you will probably realise the pups will come the same night. I would imagine she wont pay any attention to her buddies either and wont be running around and will just stay in her nest. We just thought Lula was nesting and sleeping at the time but all the behaviour made sense when the pups came. The second pregnancy was the same in the behaviour she displayed so we knew it was going to happen. Think the quieter the room, the better for her and the pups too, we turned the tv off and just whispered and tip toed around so not to cause Lula or the pups any stress.

thank you goolover, will make sure everything is as quiet as possible. Since they were tiny I have always put something gentle like radio or documentary on the background, at a low volume, and it has always seemed to calm them. They love it! In the evenings as soon as I put it on they tuck up for bed in their nest and roll on their backs. So I'l see how it goes and decide with how she is what to do!

so far her behaviour hasnt changed at all she is still running around. She has never been cuddly, but she enjoys it when I act as her "lift" so she looks at something high up and I put out my hand and she strides on like a queen and I lift her up. Once she has investigated what she wanted to she gives me a look and I would put her down. And now she is so huge, she cant climb or jump very much, and so she often looks at something so that I offer a hand for her to get up. And she still loves running under my duvet and nibbling at my socks. So I am hoping she feels comfortable in my room!

When our girls gave birth, they always waited until we had all gone to bed. Next morning, there would be pups! There didn't seem to be any real signals that we picked up on, and due to the number of pregnancies we had before all was contained, we had plenty of opportunity to pick up on things. Nest building is definitely something you see lots of the closer delivery comes, and yet . . . there were at least two girls that didn't make nests at all!! One even had her pups on different levels and it took us about two days to get the message through that it is best for ALL of the pups to be together.

• Mine did not give birth during the night. All three were during the day.
• As soon as Phil gets real big (pear-shaped) – see the picture of Mowgli in this thread – then I would remove her from the males.
• I also have Critter Nation cages with 1/2 inch spacing. When they are first born, I think they could have squeezed through the bars (they start moving around right after they are born) but none of them did. Still put cardboard all around (about 6 inches high) the bottom just in case. Not sure if 3/8 inch spacing would be guaranteed safe – but likely to be. However, better safe than sorry.
• I didn't see a correlation between size and number of pups in the litter.
• The pear-shape is unmistakable – I think in Phil's case, he may just be fat but only time will tell.

Yup, got you well trained, haven't they? Isn't it nice when a tiny little furry and you work out a way to communicate and work together...except you are definitely the servant.

Mine will do it too. They go climbing, then don't like the look of the descent and summon their hooman transport. If squidgygoo gets into trouble, he squeaks at me excitedly to summon help.

And then they walk off as if they didn't need your help in the first place! I do like it though, makes me think that they trust us.

Mowgli is getting larger and larger... I have had to make her a little ramp to get on my bed, where literally just a couple of days ago she hopped on easily! But she is still very active and dashes about, no sign of nipples or nesting... Am dreading the size of the potential litter though, Mowgli looks like she has swallowed a tennis ball.

(Sorry for so many questions!!) Is it okay for me to let Mowgli and Lemmi have playtime together, closely supervised by me? They now sleep in separate cages, but until she gives birth I was going to let them play together, as they're just pining at each other through the cage bars all day now!

I love the ramp - it's like my disabled access sand bath for Scaredygoo!
Someone with more experience will have to advise, but I haven't come across multiple litters within the same pregnancy. Mind, this is goos. Anything is possible!

She is fine to have time with her companion and it would be a shame for them to go without time together during the day when your around, she definitely cant get pregnant. Worried about this also but read that once the female is pregnant they form a plug in that area which only breaks once the pups come. Once the pups are out she could get pregnant immediately afterwards so you don't need to worry until then. She sounds like she is ready to pop. Wonder if we should have a competition on what date the pups will come!

Okay, I'll let them have their supervised playdates! Once theyre together they dont fuss around much, they just get on with exploring the room so I don't think there is any hanky panky going on. Its only when they're separated they get all mopey of course!
Haha yes that would be amazing! Visually she looks like shes ready to burst, but behaviour wise she doesn't seem fussed at all. But it has to be soon!

Tennis ball is about right, and she must be just about ready. Yeah, let them have some time, but check her cage all the time to be sure there aren't some little ones already there. Once they start coming, NO MORE LEMMI time.

Yeah think they must just get on with things but just struggle to jump and climb with the weight of their bellies but your being her 'lift slave' at the moment so I'm sure she will be quite happy lol. I'm gonna guess just for the fun of it......i'll say late THIS sunday night/early hours of Monday morning, as that's when the pups came for us on both occasions!

I'm so excited every morning waking up! Nothing yet.
I had to move their usual nest bed in with Mowgli and she was all snuggled up in the morning when I woke. I then checked Lemmi's cage, and the little make shift nest I had put was empty, and I freaked out. Called for him for ages and suddenly his little face popped out of their hay pile! Poor baby, it is right by the cage door and he was shaking the bars there for ages, so must have falled asleep right there.
