Great news dops, one day closer to being back with his best friend. Lula and Joey spend every second together and just adore each other. Its weird because I have them out of the goo room everyday as they aren't happy in that room and just want to run around the flat all day, which I'm more than happy with as they are very good and know what they should and shouldn't do and I can trust them not to bite and chew. The problem is the first litter of pups they had, who are afew month old now, rarely see them and only get to snuggle with them at night. If I try and keep Lula in the room she becomes very agitated and will chew the door frame to be out. Joey also gets agitated and will tease the pack and cause mischief until he gets out, even body slamming them as he seems to get excited at the upset he causes! Have disciplined him for this and just have to point at him and he stops doing it but I cant be there all the time. Must admit that they couldn't care less if they saw their litter or not, as long as their together. They were a very close pack when the pups were young but they just don't want to be with them now! Had hoped for a lovely close colony but Lula and Joey have other ideas. If only I had the power of insight and I would have rehomed the first litter too as its clear being together is all they want.

thank you, he is doing even better today! his incisions are healing much better also. And bless him, today when I picked him up for the meds he opened his mouth and let me squirt them in!! Both syringes as well, so it doesnt seem like an accident.
Goolover, that is very interesting! has made me really rethink whats best. As Lemmi and Mowgli are very obsessed with each other to be honest. And Mowgli has a very dominant personality, which works perfectly with how gentle Lemmi is who adores her. So maybe I shouldnt mess with the balance? A hard decision! I have a couple of weeks to decide though. Lula and Joey sound like such a sweet couple! So nice they get to be together.

Lemmie is on the mend!
I know it's a tough call on the pups. I guess hanging on to a couple means you have a larger group for when the inevitable happens and, if Lemmie and Mowgli are a bit full on, the girls can play with each other?

Yeah dops they r very cute together and seem to totally understand each other. Its a hard call and you may keep the pups and have a happy colony or you may end up with a situation similar to mine! Lula and Joey still bond with them and see them as their pack but they will only accept being in the room with them at night. Just to add though, I think its the freedom Lula and Joey have that's caused this problem as before the pups came along their cage door was always open and they put themselves to bed at night so we never had to close the cage door. To go from this and then expect them to be convined to one room is a big change and I'm not surprised they still choose the freedom. Think ive read that yours also run around so its something to consider as your gonna have to let the pups run around too.

hmmm, Mowgli and Lemmi are the same, if I am home they are normally out of the cage. When I am at uni, that is a lot of the time! And Mowgli especially gets very grumpy without outside time, she loves just running around like mad exploring around. I find so many little things stashed across the room, tucked away in shoes and various things. They sounds very similar to Lula and Joey!
A friend came to see me today, and he is very tall and not used to degus at all, and he met Mowgli who stomped up to the bars to see him and he slowly put out a hand. Mowgli took one look and let out the most horrible low squeal! She just glared at him haha and if he moved she would yowl at him. She can be a funny one, I feel she would be difficult in any future introductions!

lol she sounds like a little madame! I'm sure you will make the right decision as no one knows your babies like you do. We find things stashed in our shoes too and they are also fond of burying things near plug sockets. Don't you love watching them 'pretend' bury their food and treats! They run around to find the right spot, pop whatever it is down from their mouths and start to scrape the pretend sand from top, left and right until they are happy they can leave it and it wont get touched.......but then another goo comes along and just takes it as its not actually hidden but is in plain sight for everyone to see rofl!

she definitely is! but at some point it was just me and her after her brother died and since then she seems to still be bonded a fair bit. No issues when she had the pups! If anything she looked relieved when I did something with them and let her have a break
Yes Goolover that is just the best! It always makes me laugh because they look so serious and shifty while they're doing it. But its just so obviously in the open haha
I sometimes steal some of their treats and just pop them back in the treat box.... A bit naughty but means I give them the same amount of treats but more times

I sometimes steal some of their treats and just pop them back in the treat box.... A bit naughty but means I give them the same amount of treats but more times hahaha.....I used to do this with my kids' candy--Halloween candy would come back out for Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then Valentines, then Easter....they liked to get it, they liked to collect it, but they would eat it slowly, then forget they had it, so I'd recycle. It helped that they liked hard candies that kept a long time. Eventually I'd put it all in a bag and send it in to work with hubby so he could put it out and let his coworkers eat it.

Took Lemmis cone off today! poor thing, his eyes and ears were so gunky and he has been giving himself the most legendary groom. And the pups are all over him giving a hand which is sweet. The cone has given him a ring of bald skin round his neck though, I hope it grows back.

I'm sure it will grow back. He must be so stoked to have it off!! Is he healed enough to have a dust bath as well? Have you taken pictures of Lemmi and the pups?
