Hi everyone I'm so glad I found this forum 😊.I've had my 2 new babies for 2 weeks now and they've settled in nicely.Im gradually taming them as they were from pah and were petriefied of everything but I've managed to get them to trust me and one of them will come out and sit on my shoulder.they're 4 months old but my problem is I still haven't got names for them. I just can't think of any names that I like.I can't just keep calling them the 'brave one and the scared one'haha any suggestions would be much appreciated.Oh they're boys btw.My boyfriend suggested Bill and Ted which I may have to go with if I can't think of anything else.
I also didn't really want to buy them from pah but I checked adoption centres first and there were none around.I originally went into there to buy 2 but the staff member persuaded me to have all 4 brothers that were there.(I have a massive cage big enough for 4).But as he was trying to catch them one jumped and fell below into the guniea pig enclosure.Theyre enclosures are so badly designed.Well when he manged to rescue it from the guniea pigs it had injured it eye and was bleeding.I felt so bad.So they kept it and one of the brothers for company and they booked it in to the vets.So I only went home with the 2.I checked back the next day to make sure he was ok and thankfully he was.The girl in there said I could have the other 2 if I wanted but would have to buy another cage in case they didn't get along but I haven't got the space for another cage.I just feel bad that I couldn't rescue the other 2 😞.I also can't believe that they actually said to me that chinchilla/Degu cage they sell is big enough for 4 adult degus! They also said they would call me after a couple of days to see how they were getting on at their new home but never did!Other than that they did seem to care about the animals in there.
Also lastly has anyone else used minipetz.com? I think the lady who runs it is brilliant so much stuff for the good at amazing prices.my fur babies love all their new toys and shelves from them.

Not sure what sort of names you might like! But I have always liked the thought of naming them after nuts, like Peanut and Walnut and Sesame. Or even Bean! But then I have always been obsessed with peanuts aha

Mine are called Fatsy, tweeny and little one for the same reasons you've given yours descriptive names so far. I couldn't think of a name for my parrot and thought something would pop into my head one day based on his personality but nothing ever came and in the meantime, he started answering to "Oi" because of the amount of times I had to shout at him at first (destroying plaster work/ wiring etc) so then we had to keep to that. Now, if we go the vets, they shout out "Oi Goodwin" lol!!!

Thank you both for replying.Im really lost with the names I just don't know what I like anymore I spose I want something unusual but not too out there. If they were girls I would have no problem because I already picked girls names before I got them but I ended up with boys.Maybe I could get away with just pretending their girls and call them Betty and Dolly? 😂😂😂

Welcome to the forum, loren. (Not sure why P@H were worried that the other two brothers wouldn't get along with the two you adopted. Weren't they in the same cage to begin with?) I have more trouble with girls' names than boys. We recently adopted kittens and I was hoping for males (but we got girls) so that I could name them "Toto" and "Wolf" or "Kimi and Niki" or "Lewis and Jenson" (I am a big Formula 1 racing fan.) If you are a Rolling Stones fan, you could name them Mick and Keith. Or Bambi and Thumper. Or Kirk and Spock. Or "Laurel and Hardy". Or Pinky and Brain. (I could go on all day... lol)

Hi, welcome. P@H are literally the worst place I've ever heard of - won't give them a penny of my money. They were on watchdog a few years ago regarding their rabbit welfare - they are hated in the rabbit rescue world. About 10 years ago, on another forum, a girl was advised to feed her degu cat food by P@H!!! shocking. On the other hand, how fab is it that people come to this forum & learn so quickly? Great to see people asking questions, improving cages & diet etc. I've recently got 3 baby boys from another member (hopefully to keep my lonely BB company one day) so there is a lot to be said for forum members helping each other out & giving advice in a non judgemental way - one of the best forums I've ever been a part of. Awwww love all youse guyses LOL. Names can be tricky. I've had guinea pigs called Top, Middle & Bottom, hamsters called Nine & Ten, hairless rats called Bitey & Scratchy (they weren't, they were so loving & gentle) & a cat called Cat! Sometimes, over time their name changes - My Zak rabbit is better known as Grumpy Tits (still Zak at the Vets!) & Eddie the cat is now known as Eddidas for no reason!! Previous degus were called Grandad, Diego (EVERYONE calls at least one degu Diego!) King Rodrigo, Baby & Stumpy (cos he had he hand amputated - not cruel, he doesn't know what his name means!!) I'd advise not to choose a duo name (like bubble & squeak for instance) as if you loose one along the way, you can end up with a Bubble & Starsky (my friend had those names for guinea pigs as a kid) Much easier to pick a theme (e.g Bond, Japanese names, cartoon characters etc) so if you get more, you can pick names easier. Being the hippy I am, we have bunnies called Janis & Joni (after Janis Joplin & Joni Mitchell) & degus called BB, Bo, Jelly & Leadbelly (after blues musicians) You can find cool names by googling Egyptian names, or old fashioned names (our dogs are Stan & Minnie) or whatever. There's no hurry though, you could wait to see what their behaviour suggests? (Chewy bu&&er or Messy git are good names lol) Minipetz looks interesting - dammit, another site I'll spend too much on! I thank you for pointing me there ( bank manager doesn't!) Welcome to the forum & to the weirdness of degus - you'll soon be talking to them in squeaks (they talk back) & building a tupperware collection of a thousand seeds, it's all good. Not weird at all....

Haha thank you for all the wonderful names you've suggested.I really appreciate the time people take to advise and help people on here.I think I have finally found their names....drum roll please...... Gadnuk (breaker of worlds) and Mc nuggets.Yes I know their extremely weird names Hahahaha but I was watching South Park last night and them names popped up and I kinda thought hmmm bit weird but I believe I'm also a bit weird too. I used to have rats and used to love Buffy the vampire slayer so they all had Buffy related names haha.
With regards to their brothers left behind at p@h,yes they were all in the same cage together or should I say tank as they had no bars to climb. As it was only a day that they would of been separated I would of assumed they would of all still got on with each other but they still wanted me too have a spare cage just in case which I can understand.everything elf they told me was correct to my k owledge other than recommending that god awful thickets cage.I still would love to just be able to buy all the animals up in there and bring them all home even the insects in there I feel sorry for but I know they would just get the new batch of baby furries in.I did vow about 12 years ago that I wouldn't ever go back into p@h as I saw a hamster skeleton which had obviously been eaten ,wedged into a wooden square play block thing! I told a member of staff and they didn't really care or even apologise to me for even having to see that.

oh my god - that poor hamster. How hideous they didn't seem to care. OOOhh gets me so angry. I stopped shopping anywhere that sells live animals - never seen an ethical petshop with "live stock" yet. They're unique individuals, not stock
